Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.
The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.
Nice sweet summer rum, light and pleasant, but a little bit too sweet as for me. Nice notes of coconut and tropical fruits beautifully combined with gentle oakiness. A good sipping choice.
Nose: Light, creamy, coconut notes, vanilla, fruitiness (apricots, lychees), toffee, white chocolate
Palate: Sweet, hint of ginger, vanilla butterscotch, apricots, melon, a bit of oak
Finish: Short, sweet, slightly nutty and oaky, orange zest, coconut water
pre mna trochu nevyrazny rum. Mozno sa k nemu dostanem este niekedy a zmenim nazor.
One of my favorite. Plantation XO is a sweet and silky rum. I'm not a coconut fan and was afraid of not liking this rum reading some of the reviews. However I thought it was more dominated by chocolate flavour and some nuts and hints of oak, whereas coconut taste was really subtle. Well balance rum. A must try !
God this stuff is good. Perfect balance. I could drink this all day if only I had the money.
Plantation has easily the most consciousness marketing department that existed. All the way from the box to the bottle no corners were cut. I could write a mile long summary on that alone but that's not why we are here. Opening the bottle and sniffing it gives you a bunch of wonderful hints, first the cask then some coconut, spices (maybe cinnamon) and a very nice sugar smell. In the glass its a very dark amber, tasting it neat is a very warming rum, extremely well balanced. The coconut is a unique surprise that i'm not used to in aged rums and it makes a very nice addition to the collection. Noting its balanced you get hints of chocolate (probably dark chocolate), oak cask, alcohol, the coconut and vanilla. The coconut after taste lingers for a long time. In cola its good but not as good as straight up. Since its balanced the cola kills some of its unique hints, still very good however. I can see this bottle being a mega hit at a holiday party.
8.5 on rum and .5 bonus points on packaging/bottle.
Elsker denne fantastisk rom.
It's like a pina colada in a small glass. A very distinguish note of coconut, vanilla and a hint of pineapple. But very very well balanced. Not too sweet with the smoothest finish ever. Straight up or with max one ice cube
I received Plantation 20th Anniversary as a Father's Day gift. I must say that this was the best gift I received! This one is very well balanced, wonderful bouquet witha hint of sweetness. Once you taste it, you know you're tasting something just incredible. Extremely smooth, with hints of vanilla and a great finish. Man, it's just so damn good you just want to savor it.
Being quite new the world of rum (been drinkin Bacardi, Captain Morgan etc) and yet have a lot to discover I have to say this is the best so far (quality/price)
At about 40 euros on the Stena Line border shop it's a true bargain...i paid roughly 30 euros for the standard Plantation at the swedish monopoly. Highly recommended!
I just finished my first bottle of this; very nice.
When I drink it neat I notice vanilla first and coconut second.
When I drink it on the rocks, coconut seems to come out first then vanilla.
I am not a huge coconut fan but as a whole this is a very smooth, easy to drink rum.
Time to go out and purchase another!!
absolutely fantastic rum. Not too sweet, but rich and with lots of complex character.
In it's price range this is the clear winner for me. I prefer sweeter rums, this one is unbeatable. It carries the typical barbados scents banana, coconut and something fruity sweetness that I can't describe. However it also displays so much spiciness in the aftertaste. Everything in the most precise balance. I could just say wov when I first tried it. Super smooth experience in all aspection. It deserves a 9.9 on my own scale.
A good all-rounder, presentation, flavours, nose... all top. I prefer darker heavier rums and it's the only reason I didn't give this rum a 10.
Nádherné balenie a dizajn flaše, sýta farba a úžasná chuť.
Beautifully packaging and bottle design, nice dark color and amazing flavor. At this price range it thinks is best, if you like sweet rums like Diplomatico.
Discovered the "Plantations" with the "Barbados 5 years" and this one follows the same path: quite sweet (but hot), lots of taste (mostly coconut)... almost a liquor.
More expensive than the "Barbados 5 years", but worth it.
I have tried many, many rums in the last 6 years – and it will take me a long time to eventually rate and review them all. From Appleton to Zaya, aged and unaged, 3-year to 21-year, single barrel to blended, and (not quite) everything in between - but I have certainly enjoyed a lot of rums. At this point in time, my favorite of favorites is this Plantation offering. Again, I have to judge this based on rums that are generally, readily available – and reasonably affordable. Unfortunately, the $75 rums I have purchased have not been as tasty (to me) as some of the $40-ish premiums and $20-ish everyday rums I leave on my bar countertop.
To start the bottle is beautifully wrapped and the cork is wood. First sight shows a dark amber color. It smells like a caramel pipe tobacco. The taste cannot be defined. Go buy this bottle if you can.
I was attracted by the bottle! the content is ok but I did expect more from it, you could easy believe that the content is stored 20 years but it is not.
j'ai adoré ce rhum... et du coup je l'ai fini!!!
a acheter les yeux fermés ...
Great stuff Great stuff Great stuff Great stuff Great stuff
I knew if all the people singing its praises. Never really caught on. Finally tried it. Yet another rum I'll put above that horrible Zacapa 23 (new, not original). It was so smooth. I like Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva, and had a shot of it after Plantation 20. Never expected Diplomático to feel boring. I just can't describe it any better than this way. It knocked down a peg one of my favorites and proceed yet again that the new Zacapa is a joke.
