Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.
The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

This is so fantastic I don’t know where to start. Initial taste I got heavy banana. After resting a little bit, a lot more caramel and vanilla comes through. Really a wonderful rum.

This rum is in many ways a perfect sipping rum for regular days. Not too sweet but with a creamy dark caramel flavour with hints of spices. Not overly aromatic either, but highly balanced and with a super smooth mouth feel. Sure there are more interesting and perfect rums out there, but those also tend to cost a lot more.
For a good rum on the road, leave the Zacapa at home and bring this along instead!

Pretty good. Nice color, very good taste and aroma. But I expected little more as this is supposed to be best of the Plantation.
the ratings are imo to high. some exotic fruits and a sugar finish. think sugar is added.

Great presentation, nice bottle.
I would describe it as sweet vanilla rum with coconut aroma. It's clearly a Foursquare rum with added sugar syrup. But the coconut aroma is very nice. Not very complex rum, but enjoyable.
It's not a typical Barbados rum because sweeteners are not allowed in Barbados (that's why they aged it some more months in France in Cognac casks). Plantation XO has 29 g/L sugar.
It's very popular and has a unique profile. I recommend this rum especially to beginners.
Smell: vanilla, creme brulee, apricot, coconut, some wood, caramel
Taste initial/middle: caramel, vanilla, coconut, some apricot, slightly oak
Finish: sweetness, spice (burned sugar), some oak
Sweetness: 3/5
Spice: 3/5
Fruit: 2.5/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Value (35€): 3.5/5
Experiment: I mixed Foursquare (Doorlys XO) with sugar syrup and what I got is a younger Plantation XO. There is also some coconut aroma in it (unfortunately not as intense as in Plantation XO) and I still don't have the extra aging in Cognack casks.
I think I need a hint of an older rum (Mount Gay XO triple Cask <- it has a Cognack finish) and a hint of Malibu (it's also from Barbados, unfortunately I dont have it).
And you know what: my sugar syrup Monin is also from France where Plantation is made :)
My creation could be a younger Plantation XO, I think I'm on the right path to imitate it and I'm very happy with it. If you want try it out, it's a lot of fun, enjoy.

I heard that it was rubbish and false but I disagree its beautiful RHUM
It really is a great rum. As said below it doesn't give throat burn. Personally I notice a soft caramelly taste and a hint of vanilla but it's certainly not too sweet. I think it's worth the money !
Very fancy bottle with huge cap on top. Super balanced flavor in every aspect. Excellent price/performance ratio.

Poured neat, it's very light on the nose with just a hint of buttery toffee and caramel. The first sip has a heavy mouthfeel with a warm flavor that travels from the middle of the tongue to the back of the throat. It leaves behind just a little heat, and flavors of rum and caramel apple. I like it best with just one ice cube with brings out a bit more of that caramel apple flavor that I could drink all night. This is a great sipper!
