For the price you can buy it blind. The reserva 2000 will have less strength but more flavor. The XO is one of my favorite by combining both strentgh and all flavors

This is a ok budget rum. It's a bit sweet and needs to breath in the glass to tone down the alcohol fumes a bit but for the price i prefer this to others in the same price bracket. Overall plesantly surprised for the price and age of it. It tastes older then it is. Fruity and sweet with a lenghty after taste.

I have probably used more Plantation 5 year in mixing cocktails than any other rum. I have found it to be super versatile. I can substitute it into any rum cocktail and make a tasty Tiki drink. Especially if I do not have the category of rum the recipe requires. While my aim as a Tiki hobbyist is to stay as true to recipes as possible, sometimes you just don't have something on hand. In that case Plantation 5 year will do me just fine.

As is the case with most of my rums, I use this for cocktails. I don't drink it neat. I have rums I do drink neat but this would not be one of those. So the scoring for me is more trending towards rating it as a cocktail rum, and not in a disparaging way.

As far as taste goes, it's fairly middle of the road. It does not have some of the complexity more expensive longer aged rums have. I find it less sharp than the lightly aged rums like Mount Gay Eclipse.

Can add anything new that hasn’t already been said. Somebody bought me the pineapple one. Had to mix it or throw it out. I mixed it. Mistakenly thought Plantation must be bad until I had this one.

Sounds like I need to try the XO!

A pleasant sipper with some complex flavors if you’re drinking it neat. At 5 years and only 40% ABV, it’s a bit too young and underpowered to drink on the rocks. It’s a bit on the sweet side, but not in a bad way. Just enough burn to make it fun. It might be the perfect mixing rum. You’re not going to find a better rum for the price. Buy with confidence. I’m glad I did!

Enjoyed from a Glencairn snifter
Color: Really light amber
Nose: I get coconut with some other tropical fruits maybe banana, molasses and vanilla.
Taste: Right off the bat I can taste the coconut vanilla and molasses with the other fruity accords dancing in the background. This reminds me so much of the XO but not quite as smooth.
Mouthfeel: Quite light
Conclusion: This is a fantastic rum for the price ($22 in my area) I wont hesitate to purchase it again. For people who want to try the XO version but can't quite afford it this is a good substitute. I haven't tried it, but I think this would be a great mixer as well. Compared to some of the more expensive rums out there I give it a solid 7, for the price 9 at least.

This is my go to, if people want rum. Accessable, decently cheap and just a good rum. It's excellent in cocktails and drinks and decent neat. Though as a sipping rum it doesn't provide much in terms of complexity but delivers on all other points.

Great quality, great flavor for a great price. In general, this is one of the rums that sets the standard for an aged rum in in the 5-8 year range. While there are better rums, this is one of the best price-to-quality ratios out there

Young, fresh with some fruits and even it's young it not taste as young. Plantation rums are specific, fruity, floral, light and most of them for a cheap price. This one is cheap and it's bargain. I would recommend it for everyone as fruity reference rum, enjoyable in both worlds - sipping or as a mixer.

Fantastic rum! I bought to use as a mixer, ended up sipping most of the bottle neat. Nice rich flavors with appropriate but reserved sweetness, caramel toffee backbone. Highly recommended!!
