Plantation Barbados 5-Year rum is distilled from molasses and aged 5 years in bourbon casks before being transported to France for further 'finishing' in Cognac casks.
Plantation rum is owned by the French company Cognac Ferrand, which was founded in 1989 and produces wine, gin, and other spirits to sell in over 40 countries. The Plantation range includes 7 vintages from different Caribbean countries and 3 blends of multiple regions.
Much like the Grande Reserve but two years older i believe. Pefect everyday rum, cheap and tasty.
Way too aggressive. Maybe in drinks, but as a sipping rum its a no.
This was my introduction to Plantation Rum and I was pleasantly surprised! Very smooth with the expected vanilla notes, with the influence of the cognac barrels coming through in the finish. Complex enough to sip and enjoy without ice.
Plantation 5 year is in every way the budget version of the Plantation 20th anniversary (which is one of my favorite rums) . Same balanced flavor profile with sweetness, a bit of alcohol and fruity taste, all the while not being overwhelmingly skewed toward any of them. Surprisingly good for sipping considering the price range. It's very well priced and a personal favorite of mine when looking to save some money or buying as a gift for friends.
It reminds me of the Barbados 20 year old, but it isn't as full as that one. It doesn't stick to the mouth as long... But then again, I didn't pay half as much either, so it's balanced after all.
Fit me the best Rum with a affortable price you can enjoy in Parties. It's flavour ist very rich yet not too sweet nor spicy. It ist very smooth to drink.
Rund, weich, leicht wärmend alkoholisch, moderate Süße mit leichter Bitternote.
Etwas zu viel Schärfe, aber mit Geschmack. Um den Preis OK, aber könnte mehr sein...
Love this with orange and pineapple juice. Very smooth.
Clear bright Amber in colour. A light nose with hints of toasted sugars. A perfectly balanced flavour with a bit of sweetness, age and vanilla. Very smooth neat and better without ice. At $45 Can, i expected a mixer but got much more. I bet it is an excellent mixer too.
Can't say you don't get what you pay for. but unless mixed it lacks dimension. Sweet, smooth ish. Not too pricey.
This is the type of rum that works as a sipper as well as for drinks. Not a top rum but a very good allrounder. Nice taste of vanilla but a little bit too much taste of alcohol.
It’s like single cane has met danish navy rum. Just the perfect sweet and perfect bitty.
Den funkar helt okej som en vardagsrom för att stilla sina smaklökar, räcker till och med med några droppar i köttmarinaden.
Påminner lite om XO:n fast lite tunnare.
Finally managed to find some Plantation Rum in South Africa! Absolutely amazing! Definitely has similar notes to the Plantation XO and very smooth, rich mouth feel! Vanilla scented, rich dark taste - this is exactly what rum should taste like!!!
Been looking at this bottle on the shelf for a few years now ...
Took the plunge..as my partner on the road trip to the East coast ...
Had to buy another one in PEI for the ride home...
Was NOT disappointed!!!
Price was right too!
Egentligen ingen drickrom utan en blandform men i brist på annat går den sippa på med stor mängd is. Prisvärd , bra att blanda med och bra doft.
If you vanilla you will like this. Definitely has some oak to it too but really got vanilla with first sip. Easy to drink, easy finish. You can share this rum anywhere with anyone, especially your recently divorced buddy Doug
Great tasting rum. Nice sipping rum. Hints of honey and dark caramel. Highly recommend.
Color: 4/5, nice light color. Nose: 8/10, very mild hints of coconut.
Taste: 16/20. Very round taste; dies a bit quick.
Really good value for money.
moderately good rhum character but so much added sugar it drinks like a syrup
Nice to drink but not to treassure. Empty it fast and get an other bottle
You can’t beat the price for the quality of this rum. It’s cheap enough to not feel bad about mixing but good enough to sip on its own. I also appreciate it can be bought in large format.
Nice flavours of nuts, caramel and milk chocolate. The cognac finishing definitely gives it something different, perfect rum for mixing.
I think this was the second bottle of rum I ever purchased and it was a little underwhelming. Alright if you're on a budget. A 7 year of this would be much better.
