I first saw their Golden Cask 18 Year in a nice gift box on the top shelf for only $50. I vaguely remembered a similar sounding name from these reviews and was about to buy it. Then on a few shelves lower was this 8 Year from the same company for only $20. Since I had never tried any of their rums and had no idea what to expect, this $20 dry aged rum from Panama was a no brainer and I bought it while leaving the 18 Year back on the shelf. I was also thinking of the "too long in the wood" ruining many of the rums aged in the tropics.
The strong taste of leather and wood dominates in a good way, with an underlying natural sweetness for a dry rum. Unlike my bottle of Kirk & Sweeney 12 that turned into the taste of funky leather after only 3 weeks, this one has a very pleasant taste of leather, almost like a premium bourbon such as from Rock Hill Farms.
A large number of tannins "from the barrel" lead to headaches. Less sweet than Carta Vieja Anejo.
Самый заурядный ром, и цена подозрительно низкая для 8-летнего. Довольно быстро грузит голову. Вкусовых достоинств нет. Лучше купить стандартный Carta Vieja Anejo, если у вас немного денег.
