Foursquare Dominus spent 3 years in Ex-Bourbon Barrels and 7 years in Cognac Casks.
Typical foursquare nose with dry fruits, wood and oranges, also cinnamon, grape seeds and nutmeg.
Woody profile overall, the flavors are dark and sweet with burned sugar. Not very complex nose but intensive.
This rum is like a sharp version of Doorly's 14 in the taste. The taste is sweet, spicy and dry.
It starts with burned sugar, dry fruits, Bourbon vanilla and oak, became immediately spicy. Then wood, orange peels and tannins.
It's quite balanced with orange peels, grape seeds, hazelnut and burned sugar. For 10y quite strong cask influence and balanced taste, it's almost too sweet and too spicy (watch out if you are a beginner).
The finish is again spicy, wood, cinnamon, nutmed, orange peels are on my palet.
It's a strong Foursquare with typical flavors. A little bit out of balance but therefore intensive and sweet. Would rate it with 87 points.

Enjoying a few drams of Dominus and really grooving on its smooth balanced approach. Very solid sipper with cognac and bourbon and a slightly Carmel/oaky finish. Another great product out of Barbados..... one of these days...!!!

This is a very tasty rum, manly to say the least and complex from start to finish.

Not my favorite but still a must buy if you can find a bottle.

But not my favorite foursquare. Still, a master class in distilling.

It is one of the best Foursquares, but the cognac casks make it slightly uniform. Anyways, one of the best rums at all.

It's another Foursquare Exceptional Cask Series.
Mk VII to be precise, and the first year that two editions were released (Premise, Mk VIII), which seems to be the new norm.
Single blended, like all the others, 3 years in Bourbon casks, 7 years in Cognac.
No added sugar, but possibly some caramel colouring.
Beefy 56%
The familiar bottle, but synthetic stopper.
In the glass: Dark Amber and legs like Kim Basinger (yes, more than half is pure alcohol!)
Nose: Toffee and a clear hint of Cognac, then the alcohol pushes in, in a restrained, but "don't mess with me" way
Mouth: There is A LOT of alcohol. Aromas are of toffee, chocolate, wood and a hint of tar. They last. And last.
Throat: The alcohol is full, but not sharp or nasty. A burst of cognac reappears as it all fades to a gentle glow.
Summary: In my opinion every ECS from Richard Seale is a masterpiece. This one does not compromise or aim to please, it is a smooth beast. Personally I struggle with anything over 50%, Détente and Sagacity being my limits.
For that reason only I have marked it "down" to 8, but it is a really great rum, asking for some dark chocolate or a Lebkuchen.
Get one while you still can.
Spicy bourbon notes and firm but nicely balanced notes of zesty alcohol.
"The mid palate is beautifully spicy with a lot of lemon zest and orange peel. The spicy notes from the cask are very full and very intense."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Foursquare continues their exceptional cask series with Dominus and it's another great one. The nose is very inviting with hints of orange and other fruits. The first taste can be a little strong because of the 56% ABV but after adding a drop of water the taste of the bourbon and cognac casks really comes through and you begin to taste the complexity of the rum.
I've been trying to decide how this compares with some of their previous releases like the Port or Zinfandel casks but have just decided to enjoy each on their own merits and like the others this one is amazing!
