Mac Y/RN Masterclass. 52%. Madeira. Duft let af estere, fad, vanilje, krydderurter, mynte, medicinsk. Smag af røg, krydderurter, frisk, godt balanceret, frugt, tør. På sukkerrørsjuice, så faktisk en agricole.
This is a gorgeous looking rum. Beautiful bottle, rich golden colour in the glass. Nice aroma, vanilla, cherry (maybe red licorice? must be the wine finish...), sweet, and a strong alcohol. Oaky, and very pleasant.
At first taste, spice, vanilla, oak, that light cherry, and a strong alcohol burn. Little lingering taste.
Letting it breathe, after it sits a few minutes, the wine finish becomes stronger and stronger. The tannins come out, with a touch of bitterness. If you are a fan of bike and strong red wines this might be desirable. I'm not, so this is unwelcome.
Adding a bit of ice, as it chills and the ice melts, the tannins mellow, the bitterness settles.
At first taste, I would rate this an 8 or 9.
After sitting for 10 minutes, no more than a 6.
With a little ice, I'll come back to a 7.
This is a sugar cane juice rum, so I would treat it as an agricole rhum. Produced in Madeira and aged in Madeira casks for 8 years. Very complex, intense and dry notes of spice, pepper, almost salt and black tea. Long finish, however still with spicy notes. So ths is a pretty special rum, friends of intense rums might give it a try.
