Two years old dark rum produced by Glenora Distillers Limited on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. This dark rum is likely to be used as a mixer but easily consumable as a sipper as well. The presence if molasses and caramel is obvious but not in an overwhelming way as some other rums I have tasted. Not a bad rum.
COLOUR: Very dark; Dr. Pepper; dark maple syrup; dark brown with chestnut orange colouring; reddish tinge in the bottle; very inviting; very reminiscent of the colour of a Kavalan Solist Sherry cask I had ages ago.
NOSE: Strong alcohol; wet dog; salty sea air; burns my soul a little bit; caramel sweetness; toffee; chlorinated pool; lemon pledge; Jamaican funk shows up after a long time; coffee after sipping a bit; gets better with a long time in the glass; complex and continues to get more interesting and inviting. Score 7/10
TASTE: Sharp tanginess on the edges of the tongue; very strong and potent; pure sugar cane; it triggered a gush or saliva flow, so mouth-watering; Jamaican funk; a bit a flatness towards the end; builds a hollow in my chest; rolling smoke stuck in my chest. Score 8.5/10
FINISH: Long and lingering; sweet; funky; waves of rolling sugar. Score 8/10
OVERALL Very interesting and engaging; gets better and better over time; very rich and funky; buy more of this when you can. Weighted Score 8.0/10
IMAGERY: The aftermath of a pirate battle where the losing ship is on fire; survivors and rescue boats navigating through the wreckage and flotsam.
This is a nice dark rum that has a sweet molasses taste to it. Hints of spices and caramel. It is very very smooth with no afterburn at all for 45% alcohol. $42 Canadian for a 40. Can't beat it for the price. It is good good Rum.

Dont let the homely and kitsch label fool you, this rum is pretty good. Undercurrents of blackberries and maple. Comes with an extra 5% kick in the form of bonus alcohol per volume. Decent tasting rum and was a pleasant surprise from the maritimes. Would buy again for sure.
