After waiting anxiously for this to finally be delivered (sent to the wrong distribution center, lazy FEDEX driver, and delays) I was finally able to try this rum. I decided to taste it head-to-head with the Empery since they similar rums. While I enjoyed the Premise, it was much more subdued than the Empery. I had a hard time discerning the scents and flavors in Premise, whereas Empery was pretty bold. That being said, I enjoyed Premise and can see this being enjoyable on the back deck on a warm day.
The nose was very light and floral with a smooth and mild attack on the first sip. I think I was tasting hints of wine, spice, and apricot with a nice tingling heat, tobacco and oak on the finish.
Not the best I've had from Foursquare, but that's kind of like pointing out the lower end Ferraris. :)

A nice smooth sipping rum due to the sherry cask finish. I taste notes of Vanilla and red fruit. Looking forward to trying more expressions.

VΓ½bornΓ½ rum. VΓ½raznΓ© stopy vanilky a sherry. U vΓ½robce mΓ‘m ale jinΓ© favority.
This is an interesting rum. I'm coming from the Scotch and Bourbon world, so please be patient with me.
Nose: when I first opened the bottle, all I could smell was white glue and rubber. Weird. Knowing there were sherry casks in the mix, I worried a bit about sulphur contamination. With some time resting in the glass, those aromas dissipated somewhat. Then I get vanilla, raisins, a bit of leather and oak. Lovely.
Palate: this is an easy sipper. 46% abv is quite approachable. Premise has a nice, unadulterated mouthfeel. No glycerin or other syrup additives here, right? More red fruits, oak, brown sugar and vanilla.
Finish: medium length finish, slightly drying oak tannins, some coconut, oak, maybe a little tobacco.
This is a very interesting rum and it has gotten better with time and air exposure. I would buy another bottle, but it's not the first one I'd use to introduce someone to rum, especially if they didn't already have experience sipping other spirits neat.

Powerful bourbon aroma right in your face. The taste at first is not remarkable, unlike that the a upfront aroma but a short bit later it just explodes into sweetness (not sugar sweet) and leaves a delicious lingering ex sherry oak note. I want my own bottle now.

Starting to become a Foursquare acolyte β there's simply nothing that comes out of that distillery I don't like. This is currently the favourite in the collection. Very easy to drink, softly sweet and lovely aftertaste.

Completed taste testing at the FOUR square distillery in Barbados. Definitely enjoyed Premise above all other offerings. Full body, smooth. Fine finish.
If you are a newbie who doesn't have much experience with more premium rums, you might skip Premise for other Foursquare ECS releases. This might be a huge mistake. Firstly, 46% is one of the lowest ABV's of all the ECS releases and if you are used to drinking 40% rums, anything higher might be too much before you adapt to cask-strength rums. What is even more important is, that this is a simply amazing rum. I get a lot of honey in both aroma and flavor, followed by a very good balance of dry oak and sweet caramel and vanilla. Overall experience is simply amazing and for around 45 EUR that it is sold for here in Slovakia, it's also probably the best value for the money in this price category.
It is light and fruity with notes of fortified wine.
"Gently, well balanced spice and oak mingle along nicely with just enough of the sweet fruits and sherry notes."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

one of three that Foursquare released in 2018 this is number eight in the Exceptional Cask Series. Bottled at 46% this has been aged for a total of 10 years. 3 years in ex-bourbon casks and 7 years in ex-sherry casks. Therefore this is really follows the releases of Port & Zinfandel.
A very approachable rum. Light & fruity with hints of vanilla and a touch of oaky spicyness.
Lovely.
