I have been seeing these rums on the shelves of my favorite liquor store for some time now. When I first looked at the back of the bottles and saw that they were bottled in Dallas, that threw me off. What do whiskey drinking and beer guzzling Texans know about rums? Very little or not a damn thing at all! I left them there on the shelves for many months. Then my curiosity got the best of me because they were only $13 per bottle and classy looking at that with the rope around the neck.

It turns out that these rums were inspired by buried treasure in Boqueron Bay on the extreme southwest coast of Puerto Rico. Hmm! This was my hint that these are Puerto Rican rums. So where is the nearest distillery to this bay? It is about 37 miles to the east at Serrales (aka Don Q). This assumption (which later proved to be false) is what got me interested. So I bought all four from this bottler: Coconut, Silver, Gold, and Spiced. You have already guessed the order of my preference with their Coconut being the best and their Spiced being my least favorite.

By far, this Coconut Rum is the only one worthy of a 7 rating. All of the others rate as a 6 or less. I would rate this coconut rum right up there as my third favorite coconut rum since it has has very little added sugar. By the way, the tags placed under these rums by the very knowledgeable owner of that liquor store mentioned that these were basically distilled from sugar cane juice instead of molasses. This now tells me that these rums may have originated in Haiti. This hidden fact is probably why these rums are not selling, but at $13 each, they are all a far better buy than anything by Bacardi or Captain Morgan.

Once the bottle is finished, by all means save it. It is shaped like a castanet with rope around the neck whereby you can grab it to shake up any pre-mixed drinks inside. I will continue to buy this coconut version from them.

I'm not usually a fan of flavored rums, but there is a time and place for everything. You can smell the coconut, and a bit of creaminess as soon as you pour it. There's quite a bit of flavor, but not so much that it tastes like sunscreen. The finish surprised me. There a long finish with just a little warmth and the rum flavor really comes out. In short, this rum leads with coconut and a hint of rum, but finishes with rum and hint of coconut.
