I saw this bottle on the shelf of a favorite local liquor store and was drawn in to it's $9 price tag, and it having "natural coconut liqueur", combined with a beautiful image of one of those tall ships on the bottle. I did not have my glasses to read the fine print and assumed that it was Jamaican white rum with added coconut flavor. Well, I did more research on it when I got home and the importer is none other than McCormick near St. Louis, Missouri, the folks that make all of those great food seasonings. If any company would know about balancing flavors, it would be them.

Sure enough, the taste was very good. It has a fairly strong coconut flavor without being sticky sweet, artificial, or too weak from using coconut water. Is it as good as Brinley Gold Shipwreck Coconut Rum? Of course not, but this rum was $15 cheaper per bottle and more readily available where I live. Brinley is at 36% ABV and this Montego Bay is at 21% ABV, For those who cannot stand the syrupy Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum, give this one a try if you find it. I usually get burned when spending less than $20 on a new rum that I have not tried, but not this time.
