Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Gold colour going on amber. The nose is vegetal on the sugar cane and menthol. There is a delicate woody. On the palate, it is very hot on spices, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon. It's not long in the mouth and the end is always on the spices that for me take far too much on the rum. It's too bad.
I'm enjoying agricoles more and more, having for years rather shied away from them.
This is a good solid rum, with a gentle sweetness of fruit accompanied with a good spice. The alcohol is well integrated and leads to a good, long finish.
Bought in a French supermarket. Good value. Maybe a 6½ or a tad more, but to me, more 7 than 6, mainly due to the surprisingly long finish.
If you want to try an agricole rum for the first time, this is a god start. Quite smooth in your mouth with fruity flavours.
Rhum AOC aux saveurs anisées et boisées. On se laisse cependant tenter par la belle bouteille
Indeed Good rum...
Bottle cost was just under 50€ so after some discount I feel it is worth that
On taste, this is what I expected of real rum to taste, not to sweet with a lot of body. Lot of fruits taste, you can smell that cellar in Martinique.
It is a bit stronger but just what it has to be, a bit more sure.
So far very good impression, bottle is just opened, first I took sip now having late afternoon mix with mocca coffee.
Delightful rum it is. Real one. Cheers!
Agricole rum with strong tones of plums a figs. Taste is further followed by tobacco, some cinnamon spicyness and alcohol burn which is sadly quite strong.
Recommended with drop of soda or cube of ice to soften the alcohol burn
Visited the Saint James Distillery while vacationing at Martinique. Comprehensive distillery tour followed by an open tasting bar. Saint James XO was priced at EUR 45 at the distillery. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass, spices, pepper, strong oak and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
