Like all the full proof rhum, this one is quite complicated to be drunk. It has to be warmed up in the glass, and tasted slowly, waiting for each single drop to evaporate in your mouth. The high content of alcohol will expand all the flavours of this rhum in your whole mouth. There’s a great complexity of notes from caramel to tropical fruit and some spices. The trick is to drink it drop by drop otherwise the alcohol will be overwhelming.
This is one of the best of this series. I can see myself drinking this.
Amazing taste. Like no other.
Between whisky and rum but it is rum !
Caroni 1996

Bottled: 2017
Aged 21 Years

Country of origin: Trinidad
Raw Material: Molasses
Color: Mahogany
Nose:
Powerful and dry. Smells like in a lumber mill, being smoky and tarry. Furthermore there are notes of chewing tobacco, leather, licorice, roast lamb, almond biscuit and fruitcake.
Taste:
Powerful and bold, complex and very spicy. Notes of chestnuts, almond biscuits, roasted almonds and tons of licorice. Furthermore I taste chewing tobacco and espresso.
Finish:
Medium long, dry and spicy with notes of old wood and tobacco.
Wow - this gear has more grunt than a truck load of pigs! Not for everyone - High on alcohol and it does have some bite - But a great piece of Trinidad`s rum history that once gone is gone forever. I got one bottle to drink and one to collect, along with the 17 yo and the 15 yo. I personally enjoyed this a lot but my wife does not agree! :)
It smells “old” in a smoky, musty kind of way.
"Reveals a very rich, intense and oaky spirit. It’s really heavy."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
