Excellent in every way, aroma, taste finish. Great pairing for a Cigar.

N- Interesting pickled ginger but lead to sticky sweet syrupy dead end; middle layer is nice with spicy zest, chocolate clotted cream and tinned fruits. Oozing molasses with floral honey, but rather superficial and lack depth. (83/18)

P- Thin with weak texture. Sweet cola candy sunk into the semi creamy lacto. Lack the quality and notable character as single vintage. (79/16)

F- Short-medium, some waxy fruit to pleased, light with drift of oak. (79/16)

B/B- 79/16

Weighted Rate- 66pt. What have you done in the barrel for the past 12 years?

Sehr leckerer Rum. Habe mir gleich zwei Flaschen hingelegt. Eine zum trinken und eine zum Sammeln.

This rum is in my top-5 of rums. Coming from the Diplomatico Reseva Especial, this tastes totally different (for better). Not too sweet, with a slight dry/woody taste, and strong. In nose, the caramel-like flavor stands out; the alcohol gives an idea of being a strong rum but it is actually smooth and has almost no burn.
Really a great investment and I hope I can get a second bottle of this before they run out (now I can only see the 2005 in stock).

This is my first vintage rum from Diplomatico. I just had to try it. The first 12 years were aged in bourbon casks and single malt scotch casks. The final year married the blends and aged them in sherry casks. I can only tolerate 1-3 months of sherry cask aging. The fine print on the side of the gift box required a magnifying glass to read once I brought it home. Had I seen this in the store, I would have never bought it. For half the price of this $80 rum, most of you would be just as happy with a bottle of Brugal 1888, which is what this reminds me of. It is a good thing that I did not rate this one higher, because when these are gone, they are gone for good. This is not a bad rum, but for this price, I would expect a rating of 8 or higher.

Update July 9, 2019: No matter how I try to like this overly sherried rum, I just cannot like it. On the rocks is the best, but even when I add more likable rums to that mix, the excessive sherry aging of this rum dominates. I have no other choice except to lower my initial 7 rating down to a 5, which means that I will never buy this one again, even if available. At least I wound up with a very nice bottle for storing Mai Tais and other non-carbonated tropical drinks. Out of desperation, I added equal parts of premium coconut water (with pulp), and drank that mixture without any ice since it was all stored in the fridge. At least that made it drinkable.

I have been steered in the wrong direction by many of these rave reviews, but I should have brought my reading glasses to read the fine print on the side of the gift box. Three months maximum sherry cask aging for this rum drinker!

It’s up there with the 2000. A simply perfect rum. On the nose this is simply the best rum there is, and it follows through.

The 2002 of this rum’s was one of the best things to have ever hit my lips. Brown augar, banana, coffee and chocolate. When I first opened this bottle it was straight alcohol to the face. That being said, a couple of weeks after being opened it has turned in to a wonderful rum

Really something special I would take this everyday over a 1000 $ bottle of whisky.

Aucune déception autre que le prix et sa rareté. Au nez, il est instance, on sent la vanille. Au gout, on perçoit le chêne. Il possède une longue finale avec une belle complexité. WOW. C'est mon coup de coeur.
