57% ABV. Blend of rum from demerara sugar,* molasses, and pure cane juice. Long-fermented. Batch 8. Lovely smoke/gray glass bottle with a competent hipster label design. Delicate nose for its strength. Cane, brine, but mostly pretty mellow. Some fruit—cherry? Touch of vanilla marshmallow. Easygoing palate. Again, surprisingly mellow. Hint of funk. Short, fruity finish.

Very good, especially for a US rum. But why is it so shy? There's nothing about this rum that stands out, or that would give me a reason to buy it. I am very impressed that it's so controlled at this strength, but it's a bit too reserved really. Almost dainty. At at this strength, that's a bit dangerous, really. Would probably make for a great mixer at the right price (too bad it's not going to be sold at the right price).

7+

*Note: previous batches were made only from molasses and cane juice (this is what's currently on their website, too). The new label (with slightly different text and coloring for what seems to be a slightly different product) is not in the TTB COLA database. 😱
