57% ABV. Vibrant orange color. N: Pretty sure I'm getting some Hampden funk. Quickly followed by sweet caramel and rich demerara aromas. The Jamaican funk all but disappears after a few minutes. Rich, semi-sweet palate (dry if following something sweeter). Touch of smoke.
A strange departure for Golden (AKA Kill outside the US) Devil. TBH, I expected (or hoped for) a little more from this rum. I had notions it might rival Hamilton Navy Strength or Plantation OFTD, but at first glance it seems closer to a funkier Wood's 100. Of course there's color added, but the sweetness at times is a bit overkill. It's still an extremely good value, and versatile for use as a Navy-style rum, dark Jamaican, or Demerara rum in mixed drinks. I've also had success with it in punches and canned cocktail cherries.
Update: This has been re-branded "Golden Devil Navy Style" in the US.
I am generally leery about overproofs, but this one was decent. For me it was much better mixed than straight, and I am looking forward to trying some of the other Golden Devil products.
