Mahogany color. The nose is on candied fruit, plum, prune and fig. It's greedy. We also find a typical marker of smoke.
On the palate, we are always on candied fruit, it's pastry, butter too. After a while, we arrive on the wax of old oak furniture and candle. It's short in the mouth with a final on spices, pepper, nutmeg, it's hot, it's beautiful. Good to apprehend the world of Caroni. Real note = 8,5

Seems to be the replacement of the 1998 16 yo. This was bottled in 2016 with 55% Vol., But has not ripened the full 18 years in Trinidad. The last 6 years of aging allowed this rum to spend in England. So a wild 12 year old Caroni who slept in England a little bit.
In the glass nice rich amber with copper reflections.
In the nose, unmistakable Caroni, there it is again, this scent of an old waxed wooden furniture. The drawers filled with fresh white fruits and yellow flowers dipped in resin. A crumb of tar and a drop of diesel garnish the whole thing.
On the palate, your taste buds are shaken awake with the 55% and not roasted. The aromas explode literally on the tongue as it should be for a Caroni. Any description can only reflect a fraction of these flavors variety. Nevertheless, fruity fresh, earthy tart, resinous woody, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, pepper, liquorice, petroleum, tar ....
In the finish, a smooth transition from the palate, resin, wood and spices sound long after, the typical bitumen aroma remains forever. :-)
A great Caroni for lovers of this kind of rum, slightly more wood and resin more embossed than diesel and tar. For everyone else: Stay away, he's anything but sweet! Reminds me strongly of the Velier bottling 12 yo. distilled in 2000. 9+

It was my first Caroni! It was different other rum I drink and get surprised on nose and taste . When I smelled first time I think I was dirty on my hand with diesel! You know when you go to petrol station and you put diesel in you car . I start to think 🤔! What the fruit is this ? The taste is very heavy, diesel, dust , earth!

I give a 9 because is closed distillery!🥲

Nose: Plastic balloon that had fallen on the ground - asphalt, specifically. Singed chopsticks, chili flakes, crème brûlée crust, and a whisper of horse radish. Generally, the nose is quite distinct from other rums I've had, though it's too heavy-handed on the synthetic/burnt aromas.

Palate: Rubber, smoked citrus twist, and old cork. Medium-bodied and has steady wood spice and nutmeg. Chocolate-coated mangoes underneath the rubber, followed by anise and lots of singed wood. Doesn't develop much.

Finish: Very long but bitter and mainly woody. Faint nutmeg and smoked meat.

Smell of tobacco, green tea, bananas, plums, cherries, bird cherry, industrial note, oil. In mouth: tart, deep, tobacco flavor, dry wine, papaya and kerosene. The finish is very tart, sour grapes, kerosene, smoked pineapple. Incredibly intense, greasy, saturated with wood, but you can still feel fermentation!

This is an interesting version of Caroni, much milder and slightly sweeter than the velier bottles than I have experienced. More of a kidney punch than a Deontay Wilder right hand to the kisser. I turned my neighbor on to this particular expression and he purchased one for himself afterwards, either the power of persuasion or Caroni magic...IDK. I give this rum a solid 8 and would recommend it to anyone who wants to expand your palette without breaking the bank.
