Copper Bottom Bottom Gold rum, an aged version of the base used in their Silver Rum that spends 18 months in used bourbon barrels before it’s bottled at 80 proof.via American Rum Report
With batch # 1 of Copper Bottom's Gold Rum, I will echo a sentiment from my review of their silver rum. If their early stuff is this good, I can't wait to see what they do next.
I started by pouring it neat. It has a very light aroma... a little fruity with a hint of oak. The first sip goes past the sweet spots on the tongue and warms the sides and back. It has a very clean taste, with just a little oakiness left behind. I added an ice cube, and it brought out some of the oak. Overall, it is a clean, crisp rum that will be the perfect base for cocktails.
July, 2018 - Updating from a 7 to an 9. I visited the distillery while on vacation in Daytona Beach, which I highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood, and they've made some improvements to the gold since batch 1 (they're now on batch # 4). A bit more oak and bourbon in the finish and incredibly smooth, this could make a decent sipper and a great feature for classic cocktails.
