White rum is not my thing. Only good for cocktails. Wrong. This one is worth sipping straight. Tropical fruit, bit like 'grappa', eau de vie, licquorish, still not 'my' thing, but I'm sure there are fans out there. Worth a try.

Crystal clear and on the nose has to me a distinct vegetable smell, like Brussels sprouts or asparagus. The taste was strongly like olives, which unfortunately for me I am not a huge fan of. And it finishes off with a brine like, almost salty finish. It is incredibly smooth which is a huge plus.
I tried it first neat and then on the rocks, which I preferred. For me I will likely have this (beautiful) bottle on my shelf for a while as it’ll require a pretty specific setting for me to drink. If you are not a weirdo who dislikes olives as strongly as I do I think you’ll get far more enjoyment from it than me. Cheers!

A very solid way to change genres with your rum. I found it much tamer than other reviews suggested, but maybe it's just this edition.

Nose: overripe tropical fruit, pineapple rind, bell peppers, wet grass.
Palate: anise/licorice, tropical fruit, peppers, yeast tartness. But also umami and salty, something like miso.
Finish: long, anise candy.

TLDR: anise, pineapple and miso soup.

Sounds cursed, but it's great. Really.

Riped fruit and honey in aroma, quite sweet start in body and simple warming end.

Clairin is a unique type of rum. Vaval has a fruity nose, salty citrus taste, and a woody finish (not char). Try this stuff, not really for mixing though IMO.

Straight off the bat, this massively divided my friends l. Opinions rated from dont darken my door again to holy shit, what's this! For me it's so.ething you've got to try for yourself. Sure Haiti was devastated by a hurricane but ffs, it's a big ask to spank a bottle of this stuff whithout bracing yourself. Petrol, mud, grass - it's all there and I, for one really got into it. Not a sipping rum by any stretch of the imagination but well worth the effort if only to rule it out from future golfing trips. Best enjoyed with Herbie Hancock, perhaps.

Edit 26.7.2023:
Aroma: Pronikavé, svěží a zasmrádlé - citrusy, travnatost, olivová nakyslost, lehce estery.
Chuť: Třtinová, tinkturová, hašlerková, jemná.
Dozvuk: Opět hašlerky, stopa citronu a příjemně doznívající travnatost. Dlouhý.
Ochutnávka 5 Clairinů: 1. Ansyen 9/10
2. Sajous 8+/10
3. Vaval 8/10
4. Sonson 8/10
5. Le Rocher 6/10

Reminds me heavily of Clairin Sajous. I’m not sure I’d buy this one again

Pure cane juice rum/50,4%abv
Year 2018/Cane variety: Madame meuze
Pot still, wild fermentation
Distiller: Fritz Vaval

Nose: Fruity red wine, salt, sea, smoke, licorice, prunes, caramelized date, green apple
Taste: Super savory, salty licorice, loads of smoke and minerality, lemon, green apple, red wine tannins. Sort of red wine and green apple acidity throughout.
Finish: Lightly hot, rose and white pepper with lingering smoke, light astringent leather, also some molasses interestingly.

Decent clairin, personally not my favourite flavor profile from the clairins but super interesting still with loads of flavor.
