Really nice to see how smotheer is the Jamaican 57,18 than the rest of the bunch of the same origin/style.
Nice job on the lightest esters by the iodic influence of the see transport.

A bold, 57% navy strength expression of classic Jamaica rum. Young and crisp, (four years in barrels, I think) but full of complex notes of banana, pineapple, cottonsedge and light oak. You could assume there is a cane juice presence in the mash, but it is still an unmistakably Jamaican rum, dominated by molasses.

If you are in the market for a navy rum you should ask yourself: is this better than Smith & Cross or Pusser’s gunpowder? The answer is no, it’s not. Worthy park is a very reputable distiller but they have always been a bit of a gentleman in their flavors compared to the voluptuous knockouts of your hampdens and long ponds etc. This particular rum is a mostly tropically aged column still rum that, having tasted the excellent worthy park special reserve rum (100% pot still), it’s hard not to be a little disappointed by. The color is light and the flavors only allude to the promise of the now expected jamaican taste explosion without fully achieving it. The allegations of rubberiness on the after taste are unfortunately true. However, as a cocktail rum this bottle grows on you greatly indeed. There is a cleanliness and sharpness to its flavor (compared to other typical jamaicans) that although aomewhat disagreeable as a sipping rum makes for an incredibly punchy mixing rum that stands up extremely well to juices and liqueurs. Considering the price, however, this can not hold a candle to the pot still S&C (which has a greater conponent of continental aging but, trust me, the pot still vs column still metric is the far more important one to pay attention to). I love how beautiful the bottle is and the prominent “2012” makes guests assume it’s a fancier breed than it really is, but for rum lovers I can assure you there is better to be had for less money elsewhere.

Pale straw in the glass with nice legs. On the nose: a little burn from the high proof, briny olives, a little oak spice, some sweetness and burnt sugar. On the palate: roasted marshmallow, fennel, some ripe fruit and grassiness. Long finish with some rubber notes and more of those marshmallows. Incredibly complex and sometimes surprising sipper with some agricole/clairin notes.

I wish this hadn't been Navy Strength... tasty, lots going on, but too much alcohol burn to get the subtleties. Lots of esthers though, banana and plantain and apple peel.

I have some regrets, though; this was my fifth drink on the night I had it, and if I'd let it breathe longer, or added a little water, or been more focused, I might have gotten more. I will have to revisit this and give it a second chance.

Une belle attaque sans trop d'alcool.
De la complexité mais de l'équilibre.
Une découverte somme toute sympathique même si je lui préfère l'OFTD de plantation.

At 114 it burns, but it's a sipable Overproof that is sweet.
