The nose is sophisticated and “grown up”.
"There is a nice balance and it never becomes cloying or overpowering."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Tasty but subtle - up there with the best spiced rums

This is lovely. The bottle says it has 6 spices - ginger, vanilla, clove, black pepper, star anise and cinnamon. You can taste all 6, so that's a great start. If you hate all spice rum, well you won't think much of this, even if you agree it's better than most; and you could do what I do which is to mix your own, anyway:
The nose is like sweet spice - not too much, just subtle.
Tastewise, since it's expensive (about £30 a bottle) and you don't see this around very much, it may be useful for me to outline a comparison, so you may have a fair idea what you'd be getting. The best 3 spiced rums to compare this to would be Foursquare, Elements 8 and Rebellion. It's kind of similar to all 3 in different ways...
Foursquare - well, for me anyway, that one tastes a bit harsh, the spice is more in the smell than the taste. This has much more flavour and is in a more rounded and seemingly older rum. This tastes much more refined and crafted.
Elements 8 - that's a lighter feel than this, more citrusy and less spicey, more refreshing and less round. They are both pretty good. It depends what you want - or buy both!
Rebellion - that's much sweeter than this, more cinnamon-flavoured and more tangy. This is subtler and the vanilla and star anise are more to the fore, rather than sweet cooking spices.
