I find it difficult to rate. I recently moved cities and discovered a rum bar close by, where I had a go at it. On the plus, it felt like it had very little alcohol burn and it was easy to sip. So maybe a recommendation for someone starting to enjoy rum? But on the other hand it was very boring. A taste overflow in the beginning but no long, nice or rich aftertaste whatsoever. Maybe I have to try it again. I am tempted but in any case not the top of the bunch.
Overpriced. There is some chocolate on the palate. You can feel the alcohol burn from the youngest casks. Not a long finish.
Out of a dark brown bottle comes a dark brown rum. Looks like it should be a sweet dessert rum, but it is not. Real heavy oakiness, burnt sugar, overripe figs on the nose. Same on the tongue with maybe a hint of banana and some bourbon. Not much burn at all. Aftertaste is a lesser version of what I have described. There is a certain smokiness throughout this rum, which may put some people off. It looks sweet, but is not at all. But it is rich and heavy. I tried as a mix (ginger beer, tonic and lime) but didn't work so well for me. Better on ice with a little dilution. I'll buy it again, but probably not for everyone. It's not as good as others I have rated a 7; it's more a 6.5. But with a decent price I bumped it up to help raise its average.
Got 2 bottles: El Prohibito 15yo and Blackwell light
ЕlP15 - Highest in melanin ). Easy on nose, easy on palate, medium long aftertaste. Watery. Not spicy nor salty at all, if has added sugar then it's less than 10g\L.
Core of taste is dates and fruits, nuts notes, no barrel touches. Just positive impressions. Drives onto good mood.
BW - still pretty dark, why called light? Impressions are absolutely similar to ElP15, the same water, sugar level and "structure". Just a bit more funky.
Both are just Ok - score 7.5+
It was a Xmas present and I do like the taste. Its a warm rum with coffee, caramel and a little tobacco notes.
Der Abgang ist lang und nicht angenehm. Interessante Würze, mir zu sprittig.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
