Myer’s Original Dark Rum is a blend of up to nine different rums of various ages, all of which are distilled using Jamaica's typical production method: pot-stills. The Original Dark Rum is slightly unique in Jamaica however, because some of the molasses used earlier in the process is added back in after distillation.
Myers rum has been produced since 1879 and named after its founder, Fred Myers.
I remember when this was one of the more exotic rums that were available. At the time I liked it pretty well with coke, but I sure am glad things progressed
really great for a hearty rum and coke but less is more when mixing this otherwise it turns to a glass of syrup real quick
Myers's Original Dark Rum van Jamaica is een prima dark rum voor in cocktails met die typische Jamaicaanse funk. Lekker.
I'm not quite sure why every restaurant or bar stocks this as a "good dark rum" when requested for my drink. My guess would be price only because it would not make it as a "top shelf" rum on taste alone. Very overpowering taste, to me it leaves a bad aftertaste if done straight up and only works in overly sweet mixed like Pina Coladas. I drink only when it's all they have. Never buy it for my shelf.
i have been drinking this rum with coke for 42 years, have been through the bacardes, capt morgans, etc.but have yet to find a better go to, down side the wife loves it to!! on occasion i pick up a bottle when in the US but here in canada ,meyers is blended with canadian & jamacian rums, go figure??
À venir prochainement.............................
It's the cornerstone of dark mixing rums. Enough said.
Caramel and burnt toffee nose and spicy, fiery finish.
This tastes like whisky and I hate whisky. I tried to drown the flavor with some orange drink, which I love mixing with Light out Gold Rum, but that just highlighted the smoky funk of this rum.
Follow the recipe on the back of the bottle to make the best colada's!
A normal dark rum, nothing special about the flavour and not really smooth enough to drink straight.
Neat.. Nope, but this stuff is excellent in a variety of Foofoo drinks. Good rum N coke too!
Obviously there is a reason why people drink so much Rum and Coke and the reason is that there are so many Rums that are made for it -like this one
Burning alcohol after taste and not much flavour to it. Might have been better with a mixer.
I was introduced to this as it was poured on top of a white rum stone sour cocktail in a round glass with crushed ice.Don't forget to garnish with a cherry to make a tasty rum swizzle. The dark Myers was notably tasty the first time I tried it 25 years ago as I was sucking the crushed ice out of the bottom of the glass. It was my first exposure to dark rums.It certainly has a unique flavor. On its own it's fine to drink with a bit of a mixer. I always keep a bit of this old friend around the house to use in those emergencies when I have run out of richer darks. It's usually available on the shelf of most liquor stores. That bumps it up a notch in my view.
Still tasty, but not the same as many other darks with more to offer. Fine for most mixing, but I would always choose another given a choice.
Bought a liter of this several years ago at duty free. Bit harsh and molasses-ly for me. Sat for a while before I realized it's a good mixer in the tiki drinks I make from now and again.
I love this one for topping the maitai or a mojito. In the kitchen it is also a good one, dark rum rules
Seriously, I thought, years ago, that this reminded me of a black, coal tar based cough medicine called Rem. It's that bad. I just wonder why I ever bought a second bottle.
Not much flavor here and absolutely zero complexity. Yes, it's popular but there are much more flavorful Jamaicans which produce tastier drinks. This is only useful for mixing, but really, you can find better.
I've heard good things about Myers's, and how it's a classic, but I didn't feel the magic. There was an intense plastic taste, though it came in a glass bottle. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I'm rating this a 3 since it may have just been a bad batch, but I'm disinclined to try Myers's Original Dark again.
Like others have said, not the best but a step up from sailor jerry and bacardi for mass party consumption
Bought in San Fransisco for something different. Nothing special but more than drinkable.
We bought this one on holiday as we did forget to bring some good rum with us and this was the best looking and most expensive rum we did get there.
As we sipped that one we looked at each other and almost spit it out. We also tried mixing it, but that is no pleasure... I prefer to drink rum straight up, but also mixed we couldn't & wouldn't use this bottle and emptied it to the sink...
