Not a white rum person but this one may get me to explore. 90 proof but a good taste over 3 or 4 rocks to take the bite away.

Bluebird Distilling has been receiving a lot of attention for their whiskeys and other spirits and being pretty local to me in PA, I had to get my hands on a bottle of their silver medal winning light rum. So, let's get started...
In the glass, it is crystal clear and light bodied. It does leave nice long legs on the sides that shortly linger and dissipate rather quickly. On the nose, I immediately get a sensation of a dry-fruitiness, a faint hint of mint and citrus sour candies. There's also the slightest vegetal-earthiness. Really surprised there wasn't any astringency from the higher proof and was rather pleasing to the senses.
In the mouth, I initially get dried fruit, followed by mint, citrus peel and fresh cream. I was expecting sweetness upfront but it starts off rather dry and the mild sweetness comes later. The mouthfeel is very similar to my favorite Blanco Tequila, thin and a little oily and nicely extends the flavors. The 90 proof spirit quickly warms the tongue and throat but isn't overwhelming, it just brings more flavor. The finish is medium, minty and peppery with mixed sour candies, hint of earth or herbs with slight sweetness that lingers on the lips. Quite enjoyable to sip and on ice, the mintyness really opens up and becomes soothing and refreshing. So far, it makes great daiquiris and pairs well with my homemade sour cherry liqueur (also light rum based). I was pleasantly surprised with this rum after so many letdowns of other local based distillers' rum offerings just fell flat. Good job Bluebird Distilling! Give it a try!

Went to a “Rum” restaurant tonight. Much better aged flavor then two major brands I also tried. There is a lot of overpriced stuff that cannot compare to richer tasting rums at a better value.
