Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Simply a great rum from the oldest rum distillery in the world.
Had it neat earlier today and what a fine rum! Balanced and full of typical rum flavors. Sweet but less than average rums. The burn is pleasant and smooth, not harsh. Although aged in bourbon barrels, no bourbon taste is detected. The more expensive Zafra 21 is aged in bourbon barrels and you unfortunately do taste the bourbon on the palette (although the finish on the Zafra 21 is more flavorful and long). Every rum lover should buy Mount Gay XO for sipping.
Not too sweet or syrupy. Great with a cigar. Very smooth
Wow, what an excellent taste and mixture of nuts, oak and honey. Smooth aftertaste. This one is my standard in the cabinet and can compete easily with the more expensive rums.
I truly enjoy this rum. And for the price it might be the best out there ($50.00 Canadian). If you have not tried it and you are reading this review, put your phone down and head to your local liquor store or bottle shop and pick up what may be the best drink you have had in quite some time.
Dry, better than Doorly's 5. Feels long stay in the barrel. For the same money, I definitely prefer 2 bottles of MG Eclipse.
Very good. This one is not overly sweet and would be perfect for someone who is predominantly a drinker of whiskeys and scotch. I tried it neat and was very impressed. Would definitely recommend.
Wasn't too impressed on first tastings. But after the 3rd attempt I love it. So glad I persevered with this rum. Not too harsh and lots of flavour that stays in your mouth wanting more.

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
