Mount Gay XO Extra Old

I use this rum for my Cuba Libres and ist gives it a nice flavour.

coming into rum drinking once i moved to the tropics... as a whisky or cognac drinker, this rum is one of the best if not the best ive had that can be drank neat or on the rocks. like others have said, i think scotch drinkers would appreciate this rum.

Just finished my second bottle, a very nice and smooth tasting rum.
Very enjoyable.

For starters, this rum is not my taste in general lines, nevertheless it is still a 7 or 8 when compared to similar rums. If you like rums that are casky, not too sweet, then this one is for you and to me this is how it ranks compared to similar ones:

- Bacardi 8: 6pts
- Cruzan single barrel: 7pts solid
- Mount Gay XO: 7 to 8pts
- Havana club seleccion de maestros: 9pts.

Very good rum. Great over ice with a bold taste and very smooth oak finish. I agree with others who have commented. This is truly a real rum.

Stunning value for money, a real rum from Barbados! Smooth, complex and full variety of aromas: toffee, tobacco, cacao, pepper...

I reviewed this too soon into my rum research days where I didn't appreciate non sugared rums as much as I should have,. I'll need another bottle now to try again.

I got this one as a gift on a pint size bottle. Needless to say it was enough to enjoy the flavor but I want more.

Nothing special for me. I don't like something at that taste. Some kind of whiskey like taste at the end.

I had high hopes for this one and this is definitely a good rum....if you like scotch. Really tried to like it but I am simply nota scotch fan. The nice sugars are making it bearable but there it stops for me. Let's see what my dad says when he tries this one as he loves Scotch. Maybe also rum after tasting the XO. :-)
