Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Another good one from Barbados, really tasty and complex, two drops of water will defeat the esthers and open the spirit of this nice sipping rum

A little bit pepperery without any burn not sweet but not completely lacking a brown sugar element not bad for 90 aud a bottle

I really enjoyed this bottle which I got for around β¬64 on Amazon great colour to it good flavours and a delicious aroma. Not quite up there with other XO's such as the Zacapa XO but at the price its very affordable.

Notes of creme brulee, molasses, spiced oak, caramel, maybe some sherry. Has a bite at 43% ABV but it becomes smoother after letting it breath for 30 minutes or adding an ice cube.

Love the XO Extra old Reserve Cask Rum by Allan Smith
This product brought more people to Mount Gay Brand Due to the Honesty of the Product a super Rum for a great price. Β£28 UK Then Ask yourself what on earth were they Mount Gay thinking They the Marketing department Double the price Β£59 UK Now Same 43% The new product is fine ! But it's not twice as Good by any means and this has Put me right off the Brand as they are treating us a fools . Bring the old one back and charge Us Β£30 and we will return and buy . I can buy 6 rum's off the Island in the UK for Β£30 and under that beat the New mount Gay XO hands down for half the price !!

Mount Gay's XO is an excellent and easy sipper. I appreciate that it has a straightforward flavor that is extremely approachable and has a nice lingering finish.
This rum has a bit of a whiskey taste to it. If you like whiskey and want to get into rum this could be the pick for you. Not for me though.

Mount gay was One of the first runs I tried long ago. I wanted to try the XO for some time so pulled the trigger and bought it.
Initially I was disappointed considering the $. I was expecting a sipper worthy deluge of mind blowing favors but what I got in reality was a lot of burn. But alas the investment was already paid. So after a little playing I think I found the perfect way to enjoy as an evening sipper. Pouring ahead of time and allowing the flavor so to warm with room.
The color in the glass is very pretty, a sparkling golden Amber tempts you.
The smell of caramalised sugar, butterscotch and vanilla greets your nose.
The taste warms your tongue immediately. A slight burn follows but is not of putting, followed in turn with sugar and velvety vanilla dancing on your tongue.
