Mount Gay XO Extra Old

Sugar: 2 gpl. This is a very smooth but dry rum. It's meant for sipping and not mixing, but you could mix it as it doesn't have any added sweetness. Nice taste of oak, caramel, butterscotch, and some aroma of leather or tobacco and of course the oak. I give this one an 8 and it's comparable with a high end Appleton. Some comparison to Flor de Cana as well. Can't wait to try the 1703.

Picked it up on an airport deal. Was very disappointed. Not even good enough for a evening sipping rum. Used it as a mixer. Too bad, nice bottle, nice color.

Po dva večery jsem testoval tohoto Gaye, jednou přímé srovnání s Pampero Aňiversario, podruhé s Diplomatico Añejo.
Aroma: Kávový likér, jako by na mě vykoukla Kahlúa, ale jen s částí své sladkosti, tady jí je špetka. (85 b)
Chuť: Dřevitost, kořenitost, charakterem spíš do whisky než do rumu. Trochu v chuti zklamal.
Dochuť krátká, dřevitá. (82 b)
Shrnutí: Oproti Pampero je Gay rozhodně méně rumový, Pampero je sladší, vyzrálejší a lahodnější.
Za dochuť a celkový charakter se přikloňuji k nižší známce a zaokrouhluju směrem dolů.

The epitome of Barbados rums, generally viewed as one of the best in the world. Complex, rich, spicy, NO added sugar - everything a great aged rum should be.

I surprisingly didn't enjoy my first tasting of Mount Gay Extra Old Rum. It came through very spicy with a long and tart finish. There wasn't the smoothness I typically associate with aged rums, but moreso a bite typical to gold rums. For now I'm sticking with 4/10 until further review.

This rum will be regularly in my cabinet. For the price is the best choice If You like the taste of the wood right at the end of the sip

Wyraźny aromat melasy, toffi, waty cukrowej, wanilii, po ogrzaniu także skórzane nuty. W smaku melasa, wanilia, beczka, skóra. Finisz długi, początkowo słodki, ale przełamany słodyczą toffi i wanilii.

If you’re looking for a decent rum with a burn and not very sweet, Mount Gay XO is a good option. I’d prefer it to be a little sweeter but it is not bad.

8:The nose of this Barbados rum is all balance and sweetness. Coconut enters first, followed by the tobacco of a mild cigar. There's thickness. One thinks of a butterscotch or a vanilla crème brûlée. The coconut is always at the forefront, slightly warmed and lightly toasted. The fruit is also worked on: the banana is cooked and the mango stewed.There's more power on aeration, the profile is less buttery, there's no boredom. Now it's the more vegetal, woody side of coconut that comes through, mixed with almond. In this more refreshing dynamic, we return to fresh fruit with more acidity.
8:The palate is not overly sweet, and this is a rum with character. A hint of mango pulp initiates a smooth mid-palate, with full-bodied tobacco and butterscotch. The rum is full-bodied and never alcoholic.
7,5:The finish melts like butter. A caramelized woodiness remains, a sign of fine maturity.
