Zuidam Distillers is a family owned and run distillery from Baarle-Nassau that creates their products in a traditional artisanal way. With a portfolio of award-winning Genever and Whiskys, they now bring the same sense of quality, passion and dedication to handcraft into the world of Rum. Flying Dutchman is the first rum created in the Netherlands. A long fermentation of at least 14 days using the company’s own proprietary yeast and molasses, then triple distilled at low temperature ensures a distillate full of flavor and aroma. The heavy oak notes comes from aging for at least 1 year in small, new American oak barrels.
The result is a rum, that shares a lot of similarities with bourbon. A rum for a whiskey drinker, best enjoyed on ice or with a few drops of water. As a mixer I would choose coconut water to enhance the fruity notes and tone down the oak.

Finish: Hot, spicy finish long finish. The oak lingers and peppermint develops on the back pallet.

Overall: Not bad Not bad for a young rum, but the oak notes overwhelms the spirit a bit.

Rum tasting in Amsterdam continued with Flying Dutchman No.1. Nice old school bottle and label design. Bright golden color. Strong oak and fruits straight to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Strong but sweet burn at the end. Better when mixed with your favorite soda.

A Nice rum. You can taste te cognac atmosphere (which I don’t like) But the aftertaste is sweet and soft.
I drink my rum with cola light. The cola light insures the taste of the rum.

Easy on the nose and palet, light rum. Never knew Dutch rum existed - I am pleasantly surprised. Drank it neat an mixed, both easy drinking.

I liked it, has a decent taste and is pretty complete.. not to sweet, nice flavours.. good rum if you don't look for special

FLYING DUTCHMAN PX 5 YEARS 70CL

Vanilla tast, fruity and almost candy like tast.

First i was doubtfull as a Dutchman buying the very first rum ever from my own country but i am suprised in a good way. Maybe the price would be better at €25,- euro's instead of 30,-

Don't expect wonders of it but it is a descent rum. Oh and don't drink it with a cube it weakens the rum to much.

The PX stands for the fact that this rum is preserved in former wine or port barrels.

The fermantation of this rum takes a minimum of 2 weeks wich is longer then usual it gives it a very sweet almost candy like taste.
