Mount Gay Eclipse rum is produced from molasses that is double distilled and aged up to 2 years in white Kentucky oak ex bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay is the oldest existing rum brand in the world, with it's oldest surviving deed being from 1703. The company developed the use of traditional double copper pot stills, a process that has been in continuous use by Mount Gay ever since its founding. The company's namesake Sir John Gay Alleyne was a good friend of John Sober who purchased the then Mount Gilboa distilleries in 1747.

One of the better cheap rums. Wouldn't buy this one again but it is good enough to make me want to try one of the higher end Mount Gay rums.
Un tres bon rhum, relativement passe partout, mais au note vanille et de cannele agreable en cocktail !
Better than Bacardi or the captain but has nothing special
Nose: Not much
Feel: Syrupy. Little burn. Light
Taste: Sugar, Honey
Presentation: They have changed the bottle (in Canada at least) to the much nicer oval bottle you can see on the other products here on RR.
I could sit this, but prefer the MG:XO (or 1703) too much if I want to sip Bajan rum. This ends up in the mixed drinks which I don't want to waste anything nicer, but still want a solid rum.
Very clean taste, if a little forgettable.
This is my go to rum and coke. Not a sipper.
If I see this at the bar I'll take it over the regular Captain Morgan or Bacardi Gold that seems to be the other options in most UK bars.
A go-to rum when at a bar with a small selection. A big step up from the majority of the popular rums that are usually found in the same venues at a similar price.
A very forgettable golden mixing rum. Better can be found at a lesser price
This is decent straight and a great mixer for the price point there are other rums I would pick up over this every time.
I was a bit disappointed when i first tasted this one but have found that it´s good in cocktails.
My entry to the "real" rum world, brilliant with tropical fruit juice or in a Cuba Libre
While this will improve your drinks compared to the Bacardi Superior, there is not much to drewl about.
Wonderful with coke.....drinkable on it's own. You should never allow yourself to run out!
This is another Barbados rum that is worth the money. It's not too sweet, and it is just smooth enough to enjoy on the rocks. Makes a great drink mixed with Vernor's ginger ale.
This is my go too rum. Its good with cola or fruity drinks. Too harsh for sipping or on the rocks with a lime twist. This is a far superior choice to any Bacardi offering for every day use. Unfortunate what im hearing about the companys problems in Barbados.
I had higher hopes for this rum, it was harsher than I expected but it is still good as a mixing rum
On the rocks tastes like nothing but alcohol. Almost no flavor, which is not what I expected from a non-white rum. Very fire-y. So-so with cola.
I agree with a previous reviewer who said it is harsh, but a decent mixer. As a sipper it is bad. As a mixer it is a pretty good rum. I would have no problem keeping a bottle of this around for mixing.
Can be found in any supermarket. Don't pass it up if you are looking for a nice mixing rum.
Starting our own distillery, we had to try all of the rums we could get our hands on to figure out our own flavor profiles. This was or rum of choice before we decided to make our own. Trying it straight was an eye opener, very harsh, almost undrinkable but in mixed is a great rum.
Many times in a bar it's Bacardi as the gold, I start looking for the Mount Gay as it seems to be the next popular gold around these parts. It is smoother and more flavorful than the well rum or the Bacardi. It lacks depth, but still brings forth the West Indian earthiness.
