Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask rum

Mount Gay 1703 Old Cask

Barbados | Aged

Mount Gay 1703 rum includes rums aged between 10 and 30 years that are joined by master distiller Allen Smith.

Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703, hence the rum's name. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Sec et gourmand, un excellent rhum. Le prix est assez aléatoire, parfois à moins de 80€ c’est le top !
Préférer celui ci aux différents mount gilboa et autres last wards !

For the price should have blown me away but not even close. Solid sipper but should have delivered more

I bought this rum because I liked the XO so much. The bottle and cork pledge premium but it somehow lacks the well balanced flavors that make the XO great.

Nose: Faint. Almost all oak with hints of cherry cough syrup
Palate: Again, fainter flavor than I expected but similar to the nose
Tail: Pretty long but with the cherry syrup getting stronger over time

It’s fine but definitely not a favorite. Mount gay rums have always been underwhelming for me so I’m not surprised.

You don't always want to spend a lot on a bottle of rum but then you don't want a spice rum either. The choice you make is a nice and solid Mount Gay

Long finish, but the flavor is masked by the heat.

Most retailers in my area, sell this for 200+ euros. Managed to find myself a brand new bottle, at 115. This is from the now retired Master Blender, Allen Smith. Blend is said to contain rums from 10-30 years old and is unfortunately discontinued. I'd rather keep it sealed, but i am a drinker before a collector, alas. The smell is alluring, making you feel slightly dizzy, from the pleasure its aromas invoke. Its taste is naturally sweet, its body full, is silky, smooth and very balanced; nothing offensive, not too strong. The lingering aftertaste is barrel wood with hints of smoke. This is exactly what i have been searching for, feels totally like "old world" rum, the kind of which you can't find anywhere else! I don't know if i will try its new iteration from Trudian Branker, which is even more expensive despite being a more recent release, but this one right here, is iconic! Will try to make it last for as long as possible. Greatest sipper, so far!

Nice smooth rum that can be served with a mixer or drank neat

I couldn’t really notice a difference between this and the mg black barrel, except for $200. If you like a dry rum the Ambassador from Ron diplomatico is much better and same cost

After my experience with XO moving up to 1703 was a tasting delight!
