Mount Gay 1703 rum includes rums aged between 10 and 30 years that are joined by master distiller Allen Smith.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703, hence the rum's name. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Nice, unique taste to it. Can identify banana, vanilla and cocos.
Pleasant alcohol burn to it.
After a while this rum became even nicer, changed my score from an 8 to a 9.
Super-fruity nose, oranges, Christmas spices. Taste is spicy, medium sweetness, a bit of a pleasant fruity bitterness. Has quite a bit more bite than you'd expect. Very nice.
Had a great experience at the Distillery recently where I was introduced to this rum. I used to be a Zacapa XO drinker until I found this gem.
I find it best severed in chilled glass.
I really enjoy this sipper
MG 1703 starts off immediately with a very interesting nose. Slightly sharp, but warm and comforting. The palate is oaky, rich, complex, and simply delicious. Much more noticeable pot-still influence than the XO (thanks, Mr. Smith!), and it's smartly bottled at 43% (though a little stronger would have been nice).
This is a very, very good rumโamong the very best I've tasted.
I really want to rate this a 10โit's very closeโbut I'll need to revisit it first. 9+
Ik vind dit een erg lekkere rum en ik kan hem iedereen aanbevelen.
I like the bottle but for the price, it could be better. The color is rich, slightly amber. Smells of fruit dominate my nose, this transitions into flavor. It slightly balances out with a oak and vanilla finish. Very smooth, not much burn. The aftertaste lingers for a while. It's definitely a sipping rum. I think it's definitely overpriced, but it's still very good stuff.
This amazing piece of rum craftsmanship represents everything I expect from a snobby rich expensive premium rum. It has a nose of vanilla, caramel, oak and slight notes of smoke and fruit. The palate clearly balances between vanilla, smoke and wood while the finish moves into the fruity direction. 9/10, would bang.
My first try in the Mount Gay and the 1703 Old Cask was clearly a good catch !
Dry but not to much , this MG is well bodied but still easy to sip with a large bunch of aromas like oak and caramel. Really a nice dicovery from last tasting !
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I wish I could rate a 9 1/2. This is a fabulous rum and I love to sip it on special ocassions. You're paying a price for it, but it's worth it.
