Matusalem Gran Reserva 15-year rum is produced using a combination of rums aged on average 15 years and distilled from molasses using the solera process.
The Matusalem company was established in 1872 originally in Santiago de Cuba. The company fled the country following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Gran Reserva rum is now produced in the Dominican Republic.

Description smells strong and elusive. Smells like Christmas. A bit Smokey.
Nice and gentle to sip neat. Not overwhelmed by a sharp alcohol but rather a easy set of flavours. Smells much fruiter than other alcohols when mixed. Same lush sensation as the white rum but with a bit more spice. After taste is a little bitter as it follows through. 8
A little on the sweeter side but smooth and enjoyable to sip neat. I look forward to trying Matusalem's older siblings! If they are anywhere as good as the 15 year, I will be very pleased and impressed. Great representation of how tasty and popular rums hailing from the Dominican Republic really are!
Rum this complex should not be mixed and watered down, especially when their is a plethora of rums on the market geared towards mixing and at half the price or better.
This is a dark rum with vanilla and oak flavor, and it is important in the history of the rums to drink straight, you need to have this one on your collection.
I'm wondering why it is so underrated here. I find it very pleasant. One of my favorite.
Love this rum! Very affordable, great balance, really nice! Will be always refilled.
I think that rum deserves 7 points, but I give 8 points because of the price! Little sweetness, vanilla, oak, tipical solera. Perfect for sip, and the brand have a great history from Santiago de Cuba, until the resurrection in Dominika, itβs a good choice.
The smell reminds me of Dzama vanilla. It is definitely a thinner rum with a bit of that flavour also present in dzama. Vanilla? Warm vanilla yes. Not too much finish but still a very enjoyable basic rum for a 15 year Solera. Especially given the cheaper price tag, ($34CAD). It didn't last too long!
Nice, smooth, slightly sweet. Easy sipping and good sprouts flavour that lingers and fills your senses. I like it. Itβs often in the cabinet.
Smooth and very well blended.
"The aftertaste is quite spicy and hot. Not in an alcohol burn way."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
