Matusalem Gran Reserva 15-year rum is produced using a combination of rums aged on average 15 years and distilled from molasses using the solera process.
The Matusalem company was established in 1872 originally in Santiago de Cuba. The company fled the country following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Gran Reserva rum is now produced in the Dominican Republic.

This is a rather boring rum without any charactestics or memorable impression.
It does however make a great companion in cola or as a ingredients in food.
I usually drink my rum with cola. I found this one to have a pleasant starting taste, but then there was something unexpected, and not really rum-like in the taste. It was disappointing as I have been really curious about this rum for many years. I probably won't buy it again.
This is so average, that you can miss it. And if you try it, you'll forget it soon.
With that ambiguous age statement you straight away know that this rum is all about appearances and marketing. Sure the average age of the rums used is 15 years but what about the quantities? It is very cuban, light, sweet, lots of caramel, a bit boozy and a bit watery. Good as a mixer and fine if nothing else on hand but not your first choice.
another big dispointment from december. expected much more. Very thin taste, that reminded me of plantation 5. Not a rum to remember and to try it again - you can find much more better rums for this value.

One of my favorites way back when… in the last 5 years or so it’s become disappointing.
Didn’t really do anything for me . Nice looking bottle/label drew me in but felt a bit let down by the taste.
Average rum, but good for cocktails. Not much to add
Smooth and very well blended.
"The aftertaste is quite spicy and hot. Not in an alcohol burn way."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I try it straight & with cola but this is not my taste.
Sweet at beginning but later flat & alcoholic aftertaste.
I don't buy it again.
