Matusalem Gran Reserva 15-year rum is produced using a combination of rums aged on average 15 years and distilled from molasses using the solera process.
The Matusalem company was established in 1872 originally in Santiago de Cuba. The company fled the country following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Gran Reserva rum is now produced in the Dominican Republic.

Personally i really do not like the strong ethanolish taste... but there is a hope!
Few things i found out:
1) Do not let it breath. Longer it sits, stroger is the ethanol taste.
2) When you smell it, it smells really nice... also, first moments when it touches your tongue are not bad but there is nothing special... nothing saying MOAR PLEASE.
3) If you let it in your mouth for too long, it is like cinnamon challange.
4) Too pricy to mix it with Coke.

Strong alcohol and little else. Least favorite rum since I started investigating "good" rums. I'll reserve the lowest ratings for Bacardi, Myers, etc.

En noget krads sag, der ikke tiltaler mig.
Den har dog lidt noter i sig, men ikke meget sødme.
Den er muligvis god i drinks

Cam dur... Un Cuban simplu... Poate că la banii ăștia e ok... Prea acid pe aftertaste-ul ăsta foarte scurt. Tot așa, poate ok în mix-uri.

I was able to drink it only with coke, what is a serious disappointment in the case of a rum like this
Some "expert" thought this bottle would be a good addition to my collection. He couldnt be more wrong. Lacks complexity and isnt my style of rhum. Happy for those who like it!

Kind of a smokey taste, feels like moonshine. Definitely not a sipping rum for me. A barely enjoy it with coke.

Please just do not buy these. It is more liquid sugar than a real rum. Still slightly better than some of the worst though.
Smooth and very well blended.
"The aftertaste is quite spicy and hot. Not in an alcohol burn way."

Second most worst 15 year old rum after Opthimus 15 year 4 out of 10

I have to admit that I have only tried out the Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 year old from the Matusalem family of rums, so it's very hard to say if the older rums are any better, but the 15 year is such a disappointment. Flavor profile is all messed up with nothing clearly identifiable, alcohol taste is very strong for a 15 year old aged rum and the burn was just nasty. Mix this with Coke and you get a decent rum-and-coke, but not even good at that one. Opthimus 15 year old rum is marginally worst than the Matusalem and both struggle to even earn a 4 rating.
