First sip of Matusalem gran Reserva 15yo, a deep gold coloured rum. I'm quite delighted by its exceptionally complex taste: there is aromatic tobacco, sweet tropical fruits, molasses, spices, and a long vanilla finish. This rum definitely benefits from the solera aging process – fractional blending, where younger rums are mixed with older rums in a continuous aging process. The slow release of aromas imparts complexity and depth. For me, Matusalem has a distinct and refined flavour profile, a super sipper. Highly recommended for those who are looking for complexity and refinement. I imagine it will be fantastic in rum desserts and coffee.

If you're a fan of lighter bodied, yet deep, oaky tastes, this is imo the best dark rum/cost there is. Either poured on rocks or with a splash to 1:1 ratio with Coke, this rum defines the dark rum genre for me. Very tasty caramel/sugarcane front with a hefty rum burn to follow up. Delectable aftertaste leaves the palate asking for more. A must have in a collection.

Bottle has been open for several weeks before tasting

Light intense copper colour with small water edge.
Intense in the nose with aroma's of vanilla, brown sugar and some dusty hint I'm having the whole time with this bottle already. I think it's a flaw.
Very strong on the palate with alcohol which is a little bit out of balance.
Aroma's of wood, vanilla, orange peel, spices and a little bit brandy-ish
Long finish
Score: 83/100

This is the rum which made me fall in love with rum, when I first tasted it.
I still very much like this rum, but I think there is a flaw in this bottle (don't know if this is possible for distillates?), or I have already tasted too many others

Golden color. Smooth enough to sip neat but also good mixed with coke. Very easy to drink on a real hot day.Not too heavy aftertaste.

Tasted 5/9/22 at Laka Lono (Memorial Day)
Delightful flavor includes cherries. This reminds me somehow of birthday cake??!!
This is a very drinkable rum.

Not so flavored as I was expecting for a Cuban rum. But you can feel te vanilla and a subtile aftertaste aftertaste chocolate and wood.

Not the most expensive but very good sipper for the price. One of my favorites to drink neat.
