The Depaz XO Single Cask 2003 was matured for at least 13 years in small French oak barrels and is bottled at 45%. This is a very good dry rhum, not too dominated by grassy notes and smoother and more refined compared to the Depaz VSOP but still clearly present and well bodied. Nose dominated by plums, tabak, cane, spice, nuts and oak tannins. Palate shows sweet spice/pineapply, fruity and oak and is much less smoky than the VSOP. Very long finish. Once you have finished your glass do not just put it away but try a nosing again: you will be rewarded by a nice wave of fresh sweet sugar cane. Real grade for this great rhum is a very strong 9–9,5.

Visited the Depaz Distillery while vacationing at Martinique. Distillery tours were closed, so got the Depaz Single Cask 2003 from a local grocery store at EUR 72 per bottle. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional very dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass, strong oak, vanilla and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.
