Very Old Captain is not the most expensive rum of the Philippines, but IMHO the best. The taste is clear and without any disturbing aftertaste. It is not sweet but concentrated, strong and aromatic and goes down the throat on the tongue, reminiscent of plum and fire - although neither is part of the ingredients. A true masterpiece of the oldest Philippine distillery.

On 28 Jan 2020 i was in the Philippines & was rushed to Hospital with Community Acquired Pneumonia & after my courses of anti-biotics i bought Very Old Captain Rum to help me to fully recover. I took it in medicine doses of 5cl ,put into a cup of tea, 3 times a day which i'm sure accelerated my recovery.
When i got home(Filipino Barangay) i continued to 'buy this rum as in my opinion it is a wonder spirit & i put all of my faith into it ,by the grace of God. I highly recommend to anyone to buy this rum as a pick-up to improve your health.
Usually in Uk when i have Flu' i use Lambs Navy Rum, however , this rum ranks higher.
Relatives in the Barangay offered me Tanduhay which tastes like paint stripper to me, so it's Very Old Captain for when i return to the Philippines. A great medicine for quick recovery from illness.!

Pleasantly surprised when purchasing this rum. Easy to drink neat. What more could you want for a five dollar bottle. Unfortunately this bottle has come to an end. Next trip I'll take another one.

Not a bad rum by any means, but not that great either. Its labelled as an Artisan Crafted Very Old Dark Rum, but it tastes just kind of average to be honest.

I have so far only found this rum at one Philipino store (Pacific Mall, Cebu City). Quite an unique bottle, awesome price (for an European). Dark, no additives, no sugar, no artificial bola-bola as its blatantly overpriced cousin from south Negros - Don Papa rums. Kinda okay, smells and costs better than it tastes. Pure sailor rum, no shit. Not a big charmer either. Little like a worse copy of chocolate/dark Zacapa from Guatemala. But still way above average rum for Phils' production. Bought one merely for my vitrine collection to put a new, shiny 20 pesos coins around it.
