Malibu Coconut Rum is distilled from fermented molasses and blended with coconut and sugar. The brand is owned by one of the world's largest spirits producers, Pernod Ricard.
Currently produced in Canada, Malibu Coconut rum was originally made in Curaçao from fruit spirits flavored with coconut and rum. The original recipe was developed as a shortcut for bartenders making Piña Coladas, however today the stands on its own.
I admit this started it all for me so I have a love of Malibu. I keep some in my fridge just incase i want to add a coconut flavor to my coke which is delicious. Overall not really a rum as I no have acquired a taste for real rum, but not bad if you like sugar haha.
Basic coconut rum which I prefer over some other variants. But most often used for a Malibu Libre withe coke or a very nice cocktail is Malibu Coconut + blood orange juice + some sugar cane sirop on the rocks
I recently went to a crawfish boil, which is a popular spring time gathering in south Louisiana. After all of the mud bugs had been gobbled up by everyone, I noticed a bottle of this rum on the table where the veggies were all cut up. The cook only used a half bottle of the 750 ml size to add to the boil. In my half century of attending crawfish boils and doing a few myself, I have NEVER seen this stuff used as a secret ingredient. I told him that this stuff has 100 gpl of added sugar, as in 25 teaspoons per bottle. He looked surprised. And guess what? No one even noticed this secret ingredient, so adding it to the boil was a total waste of money.
At any rate, I realized that I had not yet rated this "rum", so here goes. Once you get past the luring smell, it tastes like coconut syrup and not rum. As I said before, this one is loaded with sugar and has twice as much as the much better one from Blue Chair Bay that is also easily available. Out of the 13 coconut rums that I have tried and rated, this one is the third worst.

Sweet. Not much of a rum, but then again you do not really expect one. It is an artificial drink. But still you might want that.

I chuckle at establishments that consider this rum "top shelf." It's too sweet, almost cloyingly so. More sweetness than coconut flavor. It mixes well enough but I'd rather use a coconut rum that's more rum than sweetness in my mixed drinks. This is most people's go-to coconut rum which is sad, because there are so many coconut rums that are coconut flavorful and actually taste like rum.
Outside of being used in a sweet rum punch or something similar, I don’t see much place for this one. The last time this was a staple in my residence, I’m pretty sure I was in college & likely not old enough to drink it. Tastes like suntan lotion & bad decisions.
Smouth and full mouth, very dense, indeed has a taste of coconut, soft. Perfect for cocktails
This is the first coconut rum I tasted. I thought it was the best thing ever, until I came out of my comfort zone and began trying other brands. Malibu isn't the best, but it's still good and it's available at most bars and restaurants. I'm still a novice, but I will still pick Malibu over an unknown, and it's still good for making mixed drinks.
Sweet, light, great for a party. Always a classic mixer for your favorite Frozen or mixed drink. No burn, but is a little too sweet.
Very sugary and it having a very low alcohol content it's kind of its own thing. I feel like it's only use is to make coconut based drinks that you only want to get tipsy off of. I don't have much experience with coconut rums, and I'll probably come back and edit this once I do, but I know that this is more of a coconut drink than a rum.
...Malibu to je kokos+sladkost, jasně že to nemůžeme srovnávat s prémiovými rumy. Babské pití. Věřim že hodně lidí si ho dá, já v minulosti Malibu+studené mléko a bavilo mě to....a když to tak píšu 1 takovou sladkou skleničku bych si právě teď dal:) Jinak toto pití nevyhledávám.
One of the few affordable "spirits" available in the sticks where I live, this is very sweet and has no real character (much like another Canadian product, Canadian Club "whisky") but at least it doesn't leave me with a horrible hangover.
...can mix it with several different fruit juices and make tasty cocktails, but if you ask me if it’s the best coconut spirit for mixing, I do have to deny.
Quite good in cocktails. And if you just want something for a shot, this is nice. Of course the taste is flat and just overwhelmingly sweet... but it´s not a sipping rum.
If you like coconut rums than you can buy it, but you can find better one. Even better coconut ones.
This is a fine mixer, but that would be where i stopped at.
Oke, i'm sure there is something rum in this but just like the bacardi "way to much sugar" razz/lemon etc. it's just a sad excuse for rum. Hangover stuff, no thnx!
Flavored rums are not my favorite so I may be prejudiced. This has a touch of coconut in a weak rum base. Mixes OK with some jucies or sodas but can get lost, almost like it is not there.
Good for a party or a day at the lake..........nothing exceptional
Since it is on this iste and I drank plenty of it in my youth days I can score it. I have to say I liked it, sweet milk, cocnut. Bot I think nowadays when I have some more knowledge on good rums, good whisky I rather spend money on something that is a real deal.
Final verdict: Maybe some day I will giv it another shot
