Malibu Coconut rum

Malibu Coconut

Canada | Flavored | 21% ABV

Malibu Coconut Rum is distilled from fermented molasses and blended with coconut and sugar. The brand is owned by one of the world's largest spirits producers, Pernod Ricard.

Currently produced in Canada, Malibu Coconut rum was originally made in Curaçao from fruit spirits flavored with coconut and rum. The original recipe was developed as a shortcut for bartenders making Piña Coladas, however today the stands on its own.

It's a liqueur, not a real rum.
I mixed this one on Barbados with fresh coconutwater and it was amazing.
Me and my friend felt in love with it. If you love coconut try this mix.

Not a sipping rum but good for mixing.

Not great. I like coconut but this somehow misses the mark. Perhaps in a cocktail it serves a purpose?!

Teens need to drink this as a right of passage. Avoid for all other reasons

This is very sweet, I usually like sweet rums, but this one has an artificial coconut flavor.

Ok, everything has its place. If you are new to alcohol and trying to tip toe into something besides the Miller Lite keg at your frat party, this could be your rum. It’s like coconut rum candy. But you can’t drink this and look like a man if you are older than 25. I used to drink this with blue curaçao and Midori. Forgive me rum snobs it was Miami in the 90’s. Freaking everything was cool just because it was Miami in the 90’s. You wish you went to college in Miami in the 90’s. I couldn’t afford anything on South Beach except at Mango’s where my buddy was a tender. So, Malibu sort of felt like an upgrade. I may drink again for nostalgia like I did with Boone’s farm Strawberry Hill and Cisco. Malibu is still better than Cisco but doesn’t lead to nearly as many random acts of stupidity though.

I am not a coconut fan. My wife loves it with orange juice

This is only a mixer. I dont know what else to say. By itself, its overbearingly sweet and gross. The taste of coconut isn’t even real. I refuse to drink this anymore unless it somehow finds its way into my liquor cabinet after a party.

If cocktails are your thing then Malibu is for you. Nothing exceptional on its own.
Tastes like suntan

Seems kind of unfair even to include the Malibus here. Malibu is to rum what Kool-Aid is to fruit. In fact, the coconut flavor in this is so strong that it could be any base spirit and you'd never know. Which... is fine; sometimes you just want something cheap and inoffensive to mix at some get-together. To each their own. But as a rum, it's a stretch.

Consumable in college at parties and maybe take a swig at bonfire beach parties, but not something I would ever keep at home. Its not really rum though in my opinion.
