Malibu Coconut Rum is distilled from fermented molasses and blended with coconut and sugar. The brand is owned by one of the world's largest spirits producers, Pernod Ricard.
Currently produced in Canada, Malibu Coconut rum was originally made in Curaçao from fruit spirits flavored with coconut and rum. The original recipe was developed as a shortcut for bartenders making Piña Coladas, however today the stands on its own.
It's not really a rum is it? It works as a flavouring in cocktails but little else. I should probably just stock coconut water and add a real rum to that instead but it doesn't expire so it's useful in that sense.
Ok, everything has its place. If you are new to alcohol and trying to tip toe into something besides the Miller Lite keg at your frat party, this could be your rum. It’s like coconut rum candy. But you can’t drink this and look like a man if you are older than 25. I used to drink this with blue curaçao and Midori. Forgive me rum snobs it was Miami in the 90’s. Freaking everything was cool just because it was Miami in the 90’s. You wish you went to college in Miami in the 90’s. I couldn’t afford anything on South Beach except at Mango’s where my buddy was a tender. So, Malibu sort of felt like an upgrade. I may drink again for nostalgia like I did with Boone’s farm Strawberry Hill and Cisco. Malibu is still better than Cisco but doesn’t lead to nearly as many random acts of stupidity though.
To put it simply, this is not even a rum. This is a joke, like a 'whisky-cream' based liquor with a lot of added chemicals you don't even want to know, imagine drink!
Never drink it straight. I only use it for certain cocktails and it is okay for that use. Nothing special. Good to mix.
It’s ubiquitous and I don’t like looking at the bottle behind the bar, but it’s a necessary evil and staple. So. Yeah. It’s malibu. Move on.
It’s nice to use in cocktails but it’s literally sugar. No flavour apart from artificially added coconut. It’s a cheap excuse for rum if at all
I know it’s pretty mainstream, but this is like sugar water with fake coconut flavoring. If you want a real coconut rhum, try Clement Mahina De Coco.
Un bon cocktail, facile à boire. Je pense que les femmes l'aimeront. Je préfère acheter un bon rhum et le mélanger avec tout ce que je veux.
Cherry coke: 7
Chocolate milk: 8
This one is pretty good to mix with Coca-Cola Cherry of a good chocolate milk.
Yes, you read it correct, chocolate milk!!
Name a better coconut rum? Rate this for what it does...which is a being great coconut rum. When you want a coconut rum choose thos one..nuff said.
It's a liqueur, not a real rum.
I mixed this one on Barbados with fresh coconutwater and it was amazing.
Me and my friend felt in love with it. If you love coconut try this mix.
Not a sipping but good for mixing.
I am not a fan of this coconut rum. Not terrible but not great either. somewhere in the good to needs improvement range. Maybe I just don't like coconut?
This I would not consider a rum but more of a cocktail condiment or mixer. It's fake, just like Malibu! Lol jk. But for real, I use this "rum" for adding coconut flavor to my cocktails in a pinch... If I don't have cream of coconut- Coco re'al. Also many guests like the occasional pineapple and Malibu drinks.
This is the older sibling to Bacardi in that it has more flavor, can smoothly navigate social scenes, and doesn't make sorority girls vomit at the end of the first hour of a party. This is a mixer through and through. Also great for punch bowls.
When you have bacardi and captain morgan cheapest versions, perhaps a Malibu with ice and pineapple juice is a lot better solution.
Ok, this is the one you can find almost anywhere, even larger gas stations. Is it good? Sure for what it is, and it’s that one mixing Rum we all keep on hand for certain cocktails. It’s not a sipping Rum, it does have a decent Coconut flavor, it’s low proof, but it’s a staple.
Like drinking a chemistry project mixed with a critical mass of sugar. Nothing natural or rummy here, basically just an artificially coconut flavored liqueur. If you have any respect for the craft, just mix a decent rum with coconut cream.
