Karukera 2015 L'intense

Absolutely fantastic rum. Smooth, round, floral, not at all as sharp as the ABV would suggest.

J'adore ce rhum blanc. D'abord son nez fruité avec des notes d'agrumes et l'explosion de sensations en Bouches. L'alcool bien que présent (60 quand même) reste très contenu et les arômes de fruit et d'agrumes sont très présent. Ce rhum "explose" en bouche. À boire nature.

Visited the Longueteau Distillery while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Hands down the best distillery tour and completely open tasting bar. Karukera Rhum is distilled at the same location as Longueteau. Karukera used to be the name of this island before it was called Guadeloupe. Karukera l'intense was priced at EUR 24 per bottle at the distillery. Nice old school bottle and label design. Dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with grass, spices, pepper and lemon to the nose and palate. Very strong burn at the end being so dry. Rhum Agricole fan boys can easily add 2 points to my score.

The fresh sugar cane explodes on the first nose with this very pronounced vegetal aspect but also a very earthy side. Citrus notes come later with lemon. On the palate, the alcohol is present but very pleasant and we arrive on notes of chocolate, coffee. A beautiful roundness in the mouth. Super soft. A beautiful rum. A second batch is being bottled, it will be necessary to wait a little before tasting this second edition ...
