Beautiful mahogany color which is a constant for this "La Favorite" series.
On the nose, pastry or gourmand notes, with almond, marzipan, caramel, gingerbread, toast, red sugar, brown sugar. Very sweet, candied fruits, figs, dates. On the palate, we have coffee, spices.
A well balanced body with a more frank attack. Nice long final with spices, leather with long smoky notes.
The next in tasting order is the barrel 42. After receiving the four glasses and aligning them on the table. A first test in the nose allowed me to detect a difference with the other three. And the difference in numbering is not a coincidence. There is an intruder in the selection, a cognac finish. And this is indeed this one. On the nose, vegetal notes, fruity, floral with rose water and also chocolate and woody notes. On the palate, it is relatively sweet, with the same notes of chocolate, caramel, coffee with always the floral, vegetal side and after a certain time, spices with pepper. Beautiful length in the mouth with fruits and a short finish on tobacco and leather. A little shorter than cask 25 and also drier. Real rate = 8,5
I had the opportunity some time ago to participate in a tasting organized by Hubert Corman in his store in Battice in Belgium with the presence of two prestigious members of La Confrérie du Rhum (France) Benoit Bail & Jerry Gitany for a tasting of the four versions of La Favorite 1995 (cask 25/26/27/42). It was a fantastic evening. I begin with the barrel 25 and I will continue in the order of tasting (42/26/27).
Beautiful mahogany color with gray green reflection. It's fat and it sticks to the glass. On the nose are notes of tobacco, leather, burnt compote fruits and spices, cinnamon, vanilla. The second nose is more on chocolate, coffee, caramel. On the palate, bitterness is present as well as sugar cane. There is also a smoky side. A very nice length in the mouth with a very long finish on spices and leather. Waouh.
