A step up from generic rum as a mixer, but not too interesting. A good value for mixing, recommend this over a lot of generic rum choices for sure.
Nose: Bit rough, some toffee and fruit notes. Definitely young.
Taste: A little sharp but full of flavor. You're not gonna get anything too complex, but it serves its purpose just fine.
Would rate this about 6.5, if this were better neat maybe it could be a 7 but this isn't comparable to stuff like El Dorado 8, Flor de Cana 8, etc.
First sip is a bit strong. But it soon starts to develop a beautiful flavour. Very aromatic but not too sweet. Regardless of the price it is a good rum. Concerning the price it's awesome.
Update: one day I love it, next I hate it. Dunno. Great for baking aroma!
I like the slight sweetness of this rum. I like it much more than Sailor Jerry, which costs approximately the same.
Enjoyable dark rum that has hints of cinnamon and molasses.
When needing a dark, lightly aged rum for cocktails that do not need a molasses heaviness, I can't think of anything better. Perfect balance, not overly heavy, not too much caramel, not too much oak. The price makes it an absolute steal.
Caramel, spicy, fudge, smoky hints, vanilla. Easy drinken, smoort, crowd pleasure

Un peu fort mais pour le prix sa va
Prvý typ od Plantation, ktorý som skúsil (Barbados 5Y), bol vážna chuťovka. Tento low-end má trochu atypickú vysokú fľašu a svojskú vôňu. Ja v nej nachádzam okrem karamelu citrusy, kokos, no hlavne punč, podobný Božkovu Republica, len v miernejšej podobe. Chuťovo ide o stredne sladký rum, trochu suchší a ostrejší oproti Barbados 5Y. Je cítiť, že nezrel dlho, záver teda trochu krátky a slabší. Všeobecne spokojnosť, za túto cenu človek nemôže čakať viac.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

My mainline Jamaican darks have been Appleton Estates or Myers, which have always been serviceable without too much burn. This one has a very particular character to it, sort of what you think rum was like 200 years ago. I'm not sure if it's the old-school recipe or the cognac barrel aging, but there's a definite "Funk" that's not for everyone in this. That funkiness makes it great for mixing since it shines through a lot of stuff, but it may not be the best on the rocks.
