Tasty, but not quite great
Visited the Montebello Distillery while vacationing in Guadeloupe. Distillery tours were closed for the season, but very nice pour yourself tasting being offered at the distillery. Montebello Cuvee Speciale was priced at EUR 45 per bottle. Decent bottle and label design, but not as unique as the 6y, 8y and 10y equivalents from Montebello. Sweet Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with tropical fruits and grass to your nose and palate. Quite a burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points.
A magnificent white rum from a single cane field limited to 1250 bottles. The nose is on the fresh sugar cane with floral notes. In the mouth the floral side is well present with notes of white fruits. It is very round and soft. A superb rum in elegance. According to Francis Lefaux, chief executive of the development at Montebello, whom we met during this tasting, he has notes of white truffle. But these notes come at a very precise moment. It's up to you to find.
