La Mauny Vieux VSOP Rum is a blend or rums aged four to five years and produced in Martinque of the West Indies.
The La Mauny estate was founded in 1749 by Joseph Ferdinand Poulain as a sugar plantation. The estate has previously produced a number of products, but focused on rum beginning in the 1800s.

Tasty, but not quite great

This rhum starts with fire in your mouth, then quickly becomes dense and subtle. But definitely the french taste of strong rhum.

Much less intense than the younger expessions. A good introduction to French style rum.

Might be my favorite agricole. It has the earthy, grassy agricole signature but a surprising pepper finish. Almost has an anejo tequila finish. Not unlike Tres Generaciones or Cianaco anejo agave tequilas. Very nice! A little thin, not much body. Nor overly complex. Smooth, punchy and balanced. Flavorful with banana and fresh garden notes. Finish is light but long with that wonderful pepper. Bravo!

Duft af fad, rosin og frugt. Også smag af fad og frugt, men også lidt sødme, når man først er kommet igennem en brændende fornemmelse. Eftersmag af cognac og lidt peber. (6. December 2019 i MacY)

Feiner Rhum, fruchtig und leicht.
Nicht sehr komplex.

This one was a surprise...not positive. I can't taste fruits but a lot of spicy pepper. But the aftertaste is not bad, no burn just the taste of the spices (herb spicy). It's good for days you like a dry and unique spicy glass of ron. Try it before buying a bottle!
PS: The bottle looks different now

Visited the La Mauny Distillery while vacationing at Martinique. Spectacular distillery tour followed by open tasting bar. La Mauny VSOP was EUR 13 at the distillery. Pretty decent old school bottle and label design. Traditional dry Rhum Agricole notes followed by grass and floral bouquet to your nose and palate. Strong burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can easily add 2 points to my score.

This French rum had a lot to offer. I need to try it again.

Color: cognac. Feet of medium density
Aroma: already typical for agricola medicinal herbal notes, dried fruits and spices
Taste: a medium-density body, it is drunk rather gently, dry to taste, herbal. Feels excerpt, but still it is not big
Aftertaste: medium, wood, herbs, spices, peppercorn
There is something in it from cognac. A pleasant agricole, no longer a young agricole, but he would not stop the excerpts. Pleasant in its pure form, better and more endurance than the previously tested Saint James from Martinique. Good
