Trinidad and Tobago | Spiced | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

This is a sweet rum with a very strong vanilla flavor. It has a wonderful bit of spice and caramel too it as well.. only a slight burn if any.
This is one of my go to rums for mixing and would totally even just sip on it for the lovely vanilla flavor!!
Mycket oljig i konsistensen, tilltalade mig inte, snygg flaska
I like the bottle and graphics on the label too, goes with a theme. Very nice mahogany brown color. Vanilla and chocolate on the nose, same for palate and a tiny bit on spices, quite nice alcohol taste. Warm, sweet, roasted, long taste. I'l sip this or with a coke on the side or mix then, goes any way for me. I used it in a rum-jelly-cake and I loved it.
The molases like sweetnes of this rum completely overpower any of the spicing of this rum. Although this sweetness makes for a relatively easy rum to drink neat, if one has a sweet tooth.
This drink is great with mixers or alone and it isn't too pricy, decently smooth.
Incredible any way, neat, rocks, mixed, cocktails. Brilliant flavour with heaps of spice.
The colour Is near black, the taste Is good but not enought the Spices taste Is not strongh enought...
Spiced rums is very different from other rums in taste!!! I usually dont like spiced rum so much but kraken was the best of all spiced rums that i ever tasted!! I suggest to put a slice of orange in it!!
A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Kraken Black Spiced 40% (Caribbean/USA)
Eye: Crazy dark, thick Coke
Nose: Loads of marzipan, arrack and modeling clay to begin with. A bit "strong" at first but mellows very quickly and turns soft, almost weak, like an old, used battery you find in a drawer. It actually smells of Coke and perhaps it is designed to function as a mixer? Then artificial vanilla appears together with embrowned butter, burnt sugar, some orange and a second, even stronger, wave of arrack. It's not an off-putting smell, just not a smell that suggests something edible (read: drinkable). It's very artificial, cheap and appears to be very young.
Mouth: Oh dear. Where to start? It's very sweet and one dimensional. It actually hurts, not only me teeth but my intellect as well with its simple and lazy attitude. Lots of arrack of course (we were warned), vanilla, fresh cut, wet tobacco, chocolate and dried orange. It's like drinking "treacle & Coke". We have burnt sugar with some anonymous spices and not much else. But even so, it's not unpleasant. The ABV is actually well balanced and perfect for this one but the sugar level is through the roof and can´t be disregarded.
Reaction: I got a heads up from my friend about this one (an excuse in advance for the sample really) and with that in mind I did expect something quite nasty. This is not nasty, but rather tasty in its own weird way. However, I don't see it as a drink as much as a drink ingredient. Now, I don't tend to drink cocktails and such so for me Kraken Black Spiced will end up on the same memory-heap as many other single dimension alcoholic beverages. I never drink spirits on the rocks but with this one I might reconsider. Maybe it can be a part of an experimental lamb rack glazing or something like that?
