Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.
I’m confused by the range in the reviews. I’m not sure if the product varies batch to batch but when I tried it it was overproif and vanilla forward. I found it sweet, vanilla rich and enjoyable. I could sip on it neat with a little burn during the sip. I’m. It sure I’d enjoy in a cocktail as I’d imagine the vanilla would overpower the cocktail. All in all a decent flavored/spiced rum.
Good stuff rum with cola, wouldn't take it straight.
bottle and label designs are exceptional.
it seems most of development funds were spend on image building than the liquid itself....
if in a pinch of having no other choice, you must but if you have access to other spiced rums, go for your usual selection.
good for an experience... as in singular, an experience... especially if you are the type to prefer to drink your liquid straight at room temperature as myself.
Good spice rum with a nice brown color and a strong coffee flavour.
I normally go for Kraken and soda on the rocks. This is my standard drink. It has plenty of flavor and brings enough sweetness not to need anything else.
A great beginner's rum - to be used in mixed drinks only of course. It is perfect with Coca Cola - the spicing has a cola like flavor to it and it just blends marvelously. The only thing I'll put in my Coke these days besides ice.
The Kraken rum is strong, rich, with nice very dark color and smooth . Very nice Limited Edition bottle .
This is not for everyone. I know, as the Kraken has beaten me a few times, and I'm no faint-hearted slouch! Spicy and flavorful, this stuff boasts a vanilla taste that heats up and goes nice in a Coke & lime. Even fun for a shot every now and then, but beware too many of these!
Decent enough for a mixing rum, same taste, though a little spicier then Capt Morgan.
Smooth, very vanilla heavy dark rum. Particularly smooth and drinkable - not particularly characteristic with mixer, typically melds identically to the flavour of coca cola. Very very drinkable.
typically i don't drink spiced rums unless they are great, this one tries to be great.
It reminds me of infused lakrits in vodka; the rum is almost salty. I kind of like it though.
Duger om man ska shota...
För dyr med tanke på smak o innehåll.
I actually got this rum as a present and did not expect much from it. It turned out to be OK to drink straight. Not great but ok.
Jemnejší, menej výrazný. Ale zároveň chutnejší ako kapitán.
Un Rhum plus industriel certainement qui conviendra à merveille à la préparation de coktails, il est également plaisant à boire pur avec ses notes de caramel.
This is my go to rum when having lots of company over with mixed drinks.
First impressions of this is that it has a lot of caramel coloring added. When poured the rum stays almost pure black with no reddy tones. On the nose it's sweet, vanilla and almond. Mixed with cola it maintains that sweetness but there's a roughness from what I imagine a young gold rum base so ming through prominently. Nice enough but nothing incredible or new. Probably on a par with Morgans spiced gold if I'm honest.
Well rounded spices with just the right kick. Ok for what it is.
edited to add sugar test results- 26g
I bought the BIG bottle of this and it took a while to get through. It is not bad with Coke, but I like my rum on the rocks.
Nice tones, cinnamon, caramel, and black cherry. Straight up possible but like it in a coke more.
Big up my shipmates at work for this one. Rocks. Lime. Glug. Best spiced rum for me so far.
This rum is so smooth I normally just drink it on the rocks. Although this I would say is the best mixing rum I have tried thus far.
Very strong syrupy taste, overpowers the spices heavily. Pretty much only good mixed with ginger beer. If you aren't interested in drinking a Dark and Stormy I would skip over this.
