Trinidad and Tobago | Spiced | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4) Distilled
Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

I have had this on the rocks and done it as a shot... either way it's great!
Dark, very easy to mix and delicious with cola and a splash of grenadine! Watch out, it's a bit higher alcohol content then most spiced rums but way smoother. Very good taste in my opinion, great mixer. Pick up a bottle and enjoy
This is a very harsh rum, good for "Customers" as my mom used to say, who visit and want to mix it with something. Although once in awhile I will take a swig and act like a Pirate with the crinkling face and all... Not on my good list...
My friend and I tried to power through a small glass each of this stuff. It was truly awful!

The rum is heavily colored to dark brown, almost black hue. In the glass, it leaves thick, viscous legs.
The nose is full of licorice, with hints of wet bark and mint candy.
The taste is very sweet, more licquorice, honey, maple syrup, herbs and finally eucalyptus with a nasty, aspartame-like chemical aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is oily and cloying, änd the finish is short and rather unpleasant, with lingering chemical aftertaste.
This drink was obviously designed to be drowned in a jug of cola, but even so, it tastes more like Jagermeister than rum.
Too sweet, must have colouring in it to make it that black. Wouldn't buy again and I wish people would stop giving it to me.
This one is unbelievably amazing, it's not too expensive and it tastes absolutely amazing, straight and mixed.
This should be in everybody's collection.excellent for sipping or with cola.
Not a fan of this. If you like off-brand diet soda mixed with rubbing alcohol, you might enjoy this. Anyone rating this over a 4 has not an earthly clue what decent rum should taste like. You might be able to turn your regular coke into an alcoholic Diet Coke substitute with this but that’s about the only use of it I can think of. Also per ALKO notes this is absolutely loaded with flavor additives in addition to ungodly amounts of sugar.
*Update June 2020* This rum tasted so horrible that I am traumatized. Almost a year later and I still have most of a bottle that I am unable to even think about opening because I can't stand even the smell of it.
*Update August 2020* After realizing that I could not in good conscience pass this bottle off on a colleague, I poured down the drain. This is to date the only rum I have ever rated a 1 and literally poured down the drain.

A caramel/treacley heavy molasses like smell. .
"There is nothing subtle about the spicing and the caramel flavour makes the rum, to my taste overly sweet."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The bottle is totally one of the most unique out there for sure. Smelling it from the bottle it smells like cotton candy, so much sweetness smell it's incredible. Pouring it in the glass it is a dark black amber color and it smells and I'm not exaggerating like latex paint and then a woof of alcohol. But its mostly cocoa and molasses creating this smell. Drinking it straight is very very harsh. Harsh burn up front and I mean HARSH. I was trying to zone in on flavors but I was more worried about the fire I just in took. Drinking it with Diet coke gives you a strange rum and coke. Initially it tastes like a regular coke then it kicks in full gear a bitter chocolate and then a large amount of sweetness (from molasses) and then evens out with a finish of caramel. I'm not a very big chocolate rum person so I cant consider this one all that good and at its price point is only so-so as a mixer. I don't get too much spice out of it either. This rum reminds me of something that first starts you on rum tasting. Its one of those that when you first try are thinking its SO much better than bacardi (it is) and you get all hyped about it and think you are a rum snob. After swimming in the rum pool for a while you realize this is only so so compared to others. But I strongly recommend if you like bitter-sweet rums.
