Kraken Black Spiced Rum was first introduced by Proximo Spirits in 2010 . The dark rum is infused with 11 “secret” spices, caramel and other natural flavors.
The rum gets its name after the mythical sea creature 'The Kraken'. As legend has it, this terrifying creature attacked ships at sea during the 18th and 19th centuries - possibly for all the rum on board.

Read a lot of reviews that absolutely rave about Kraken so I decided to give it a go, Sainsbury's £20, reduced from £23.
Love the colour and the nose is certainly different, but I'm not convinced about the taste. It's not the smoothest, but certainly not harsh, a glowing burn and strong aftertaste.
Tried it neat first, ok, but not really a sipper in my opinion.
Adding 1 ice cube definitely smoothed it out for sipping.
Added coke and was surprised, it makes a great rum and coke.
Not really convinced it will become a fixture in my cabinet, but time might change my mind, along with more tastings.

Well I have finished the bottle and I'm sorry to say that I won't be going out for a re fill. I just don't enjoy this rum and quite frankly can't see why it's so highly rated by so many people.
But hey, each to his/her own tastes.
Sadly it's not for me.

either way you can't go wrong. Unique flavor and nice color. I use it more as a mixer
Now thats my favorite rum for the moment! I love the caramel taste!
Just starting to enjoy spiced rums and this one hit the spot

This is the rum that will always be somewhere in my liquor cabinet. It is my go to for a mixer with its bold taste and color. It is a great rum for just about anything, definite must have for a mixer, and not bad straight or on the rocks. In all, if I could only have one rum in my cabinet that had to do it all, this would be the one.

For me this was very simple rum of one taste, nothing to enjoy, I got enough after 1 glass, no tastes to explore, even though the one that was there is pleasant, it just does not do as a sipper.

Was only thinking of Pirates of the Caribbean when I saw this, so I had to buy it. I didn't like the flavour as a pure sipping rum, but when mixed with a cola it was far better, it has a good strong taste when comparing it to other mixing rums.
You just have to look out for the extra percentages - found out it was 47% after my first mouthful, so a bit more cola was required ;-)
Tried as a sipping rum, not a good experience, needs OJ or eggnnog to suit my taste.
